Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of participating in a horse workshop facilitated by Cosmic Equine.
Teddy the mareema was the main character 😅
I have so much missed spending time, and connecting, with horses. They are my equal big love with dogs.
They say dogs are of the heart, where as horses are of the soul. I believe this to be true.
Both species teach us very different lessons about ourselves, if we're open and willing to listen 🧡🍂✨️

Training isn't about obedience 🧡✨️🐾

When I talk about training a dog, I'm talking about creating the boundaries which allow agency for dogs.

What mindset do we want our dog to be in?
CALM

Calm allows information processing and the ability to adapt to environmental stimuli.

Calm allows a pause before action, rather than creating overwhelm.

Calm allows family group behaviours to be understood and applied.

If you're dog cannot regulate and get to a place of calm, you cannot expect them to make appropriate choices that keep them safe.

The year has started with so many dogs finding their way to me for help with their humans 🙊
I can never get tired of supporting people and their pets to better connect and understand each other.
We so often get dogs with the intention to bring them into our human world, when we actually need to be open to leaning into our dog's world. We really can learn so much from them.
Dogs are nature, we could all use more nature connection in our lives 🧡🐾✨️

Floof tax is my little guy Darwin. We've been slowly supporting his coat to grow into its natural state. I can confirm there us a strong positive correlation between floof and attitude 😂

The best thing we can do for our dogs is be clear and consistent.

CLEAR in our expectations of family group behaviour.
CONSISTENT in group behaviour patterns.

These two factors create a SAFE space for our dogs. When dogs feel safe, they process situations which allow better decision making.

When we remove that safety, we begin to see behavioural issues develop.

It’s not about obedience, it’s all in creating safety and security.

Intimate group settings provide the perfect space to connect, share and grow together.

When we step away from our humaness and allow ourselves to return to nature, we stand to learn a great deal from the other living things we share this beautiful world with.
