You know it's an absolute treat for me to get to work with Boston's...anytime. Ever.
As a Boston mum I have a unique insight into living with, developing and training these incredible and highly motivated, playful dogs.

This absolutely lovely family are settling into a new area and environment and we are working on helping that process and well as building confidence and foundational training for younger boy Serge.

He did incredibly well in our session and I am really looking forward to hearing how it's all going!

This guy! Max 🥰

With an exceptionally dedicated mum who has been committed to his training since she adopted him, it's been an absolute pleasure being a part of their journey.

Max had some pretty strong environmental sensitivities (some of which still exist)
and overall lack of training, trust and guidance in the world but with dedication and commitment he has flourished.

With some expected bumps along the way and the occasional issue to work through, Max is definitely one of the lucky ones.

Look forward to their next progress report.

As we get back into routine for the year, there can sometimes be a little less time for...that training you've been putting off.

The good news?
Smart Dog is now offering a brand new Day-Train Service for $85 per session.
What is it?
A 45 minute session targeting & building specific skills including (but not limited to)
loose leash walking, recall, dog socialisation, foundational skills, proofing / generalising known skills, building toy and play drive, confidence building & environmental socialisation / habituation.

*Customised to your dog
* Collection and drop off
*Video tutorials

The goal is to build the skills your dog needs on a weekly basis & teach you how to maintain / build on them.

Available to clients in Melbourne CBD, Stonnington, Bayside, City of Port Phillip & Yarra City Council
Areas outside these councils incur a travel fee :)

9 month old Yorkie Bentley was an absolute ripper in his home session yesterday.

He's learning the rules of how to interact and live with his older sister, Maltese Clancy.

As well as learning a whole range of foundational skills and play.

Bentley is a very fast learner, food and play motivated with a very optimistic, happy attitude!
All great attributes to set up him super well for a happy life full of all the good stuff.

His humans were also wonderful in his session, taking everything on board and excited for what's ahead.

Looking forward to their progress report!

Uncomfortable truths.
Regretfully I've had a few unpleasant encounters in my neighbourhood lately with off lead dogs in public on lead spaces.

What happens?

*Owners often assume their 'friendly' dog is given a green light to approach any dog they see fit. This is not only impolite but also irresponsible as we all know not all dogs will tolerate/invite this unwanted Interaction.

*Owners who cannot recall their dogs, nor walk them on a loose leash become instantly defensive when asked to put their dogs on lead/do not approach. Uncalled for arguments and confrontations ensue.

*Responsible owners end up managing/having to constantly find new locations, or be hyper vigilant when heading out with their dogs to avoid these situations.

I hate conflict but for some reason (including an off lead dog with zero recall running down my private driveway to approach my on lead dog) these unnecessary situations are increasing where I live.

I already manage where we go pretty tightly and will continue to do so.
But for those who may not know, anywhere in public (streets/laneways etc) are on leash areas.

In Stonnington there are 25 parks and reserves that are off leash (that's plenty!)
Other than that, in all public spaces, dogs must be on leash (max 3 metres)

It's just not difficult to find off leash areas and on the way, pop your dog on leash.
If walking/pulling is a problem, pretty sure there's a million trainers that can help with that 🌿🙂🌿

You don't need any particular type of breed to train to a high level, play like there's no tomorrow, and continue to grow, learn and have an awesome life together.

Absolutely depending on what you want to do with your dog, breed, genetics, training, and various other factors will come into play, but particularly in the smaller dog world, we're seeing more and more representation of smaller dogs crushing and participating in activities and dog sports once thought the arena of their bigger cousins.

I adore all dogs and get my bigger dog fix at work which I'm grateful for, but also incredibly grateful to be able to develop and grow with this powerhouse as we set our goals for 2026....and most importantly have an insane amount of fun along the way.

Small dogs...no limits.

Hi friends.

As someone who has been working with dogs professionally for over ten years now, I know that financial constraints can be a barrier to sound, practical, science based dog training.

For this reason (and for the love of dogs!!) I am significantly reducing my in home behaviour and training consultation fee to $100 for a 50 minute session (down from $180) for Stonnington locals!

We all love our dogs and I'd much rather be able to be part of the solution than the problem.

Life with Viola.
Raising, training and developing Viola has been one of my life's true joys.
She is a combination of drive, motivation, intelligence, energy, chaos and calm.
She's just under 2 years old now and it's been an absolute blast.

For a small dog, she packs a mighty punch...and that was the whole plan.
She is a true teacher and hilarious student & my world is so so richer and fuller with her by my side.

We have so much ahead of us and she remains one of my life's best decisions
