🌿 Unlocking Calm: A Closer Look at GV-20 🌿

Did you know Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) includes specific acupuncture points that can help calm your pet?

One of the most fascinating is GV-20, part of the Governing Vessel channel. Located right on the top of the head—between the ear canals in dogs—GV-20 is often called the Permission or Balance point.

✨ Why it matters:
GV-20 is used to support calmness and emotional balance. It’s commonly chosen in treatments for spinal issues, anxiety, and conditions involving Shen disturbance (the TCVM term for emotional or mental unrest).

🩺 How it’s used:
Veterinary acupuncturists stimulate GV-20 using techniques like dry needling, aquapuncture, or electro-acupuncture across many species, including dogs, cats, horses, and exotic animals.

💆‍♀️ For pet parents:
While needles are best left to the pros, the location of GV-20 makes it ideal for gentle massage or Tui-na (TCVM bodywork). Softly massaging this point may offer a soothing effect for your animal.

🐶✨ A Sweet Moment ✨🐾

This lovely girl was seen in the comfort of her home for a biomechanical assessment and treatment — she’s been dealing with muscle loss, stiffness in her back legs, and compensatory tension through her spine and shoulders.

With a combination of gentle osteopathic techniques, chiropractic, myofascial release, and targeted laser therapy, we worked to restore comfort and improve her mobility 💛

Later that afternoon, her mum sent a beautiful message:

“She got up onto the window table today to greet me when I came home — she hasn’t done that in 6 months! She must be feeling really good.”

Moments like this are everything ❤ and why I love what I do.

Dr. Shaan is expanding her toolkit by studying Veterinary Acupuncture through Chi University, with a focus on Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM).

This month, she attended her first in-person workshop in Adelaide, learning from some incredible tutors and fellow students. From understanding ancient meridians to hands-on acupuncture techniques, it was an inspiring start to this new journey. 🐾✨

Dr. Shaan is excited to continue her studies and gradually integrate acupuncture into her treatments—offering even more ways to support your pets’ health and comfort, naturally.
