Not every snake needs to be caught.

A lot of snakes people see outside are simply passing through and will move on by themselves if left alone.

We spend a lot of time helping people over the phone with:
• Snake identification
• Safety advice
• Understanding behaviour
• Deciding whether relocation is actually needed

Sometimes the safest option is simply giving the snake space to move on naturally.

But if it’s inside, around pets/kids, or you’re uncomfortable — that’s what we’re here for.

We were called out to a late-night job for this beautiful Albino Darwin Python, referred through Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7

After a full inspection, we noticed a few lumps and some scratches, possibly consistent with a cat encounter.

Given Sunny's condition (the nickname we have given him), and the fact this isn’t a species native to our area, it’s highly likely this is a lost or dumped pet.

To make sure he gets the care he needs, we transported him to the RSPCA for a full health check.

From here, they’ll carry out the appropriate assessments and work through the correct process with DETSI.

If you’ve lost an Albino Darwin Python in the Ipswich area, please contact the RSPCA or DETSI to confirm ownership. You will need to provide licence details and proof of ownership.

Just a reminder — releasing pet reptiles into the wild is illegal and incredibly dangerous for the animal. They don’t have the same survival skills as wild snakes and often don’t survive long without intervention.

If you ever find yourself unable to care for a reptile, there are safe and legal options available — reach out for help and guidance.

🚨WARNING PHOTO MAY BE GRAPHIC TO SOME🚨

A big, beautiful Coastal Carpet Python (Morelia spilota mcdowelli) A non venomous species we relocate from Ebbw Vale but this one came with a tough situation.

Unfortunately, this snake had found its way into a guinea pig enclosure and had already constricted most of them before we arrived. The neighbours were able to save one, which was a small positive in a pretty upsetting situation for the owner.

When we got there, the python was mid-meal. As hard as it is to see, we made the decision to let it finish. That way, their loss wasn’t completely wasted and the snake was able to take the food it had already worked for.

This is a good reminder that snakes aren’t being “aggressive” or cruel — they’re simply doing what they are designed to do. If there’s an easy food source, they will take it.

If you keep small animals like guinea pigs, chickens, or birds:
• Make sure enclosures are secure (solid wire, not chicken wire)
• Check for gaps or weak points
• Lock them up at night where possible
• Avoid leaving food scraps that attract rodents (which then attract snakes)

We know these situations are never easy for owners, and we really feel for those involved. Our goal is always to keep people, pets, and wildlife as safe as possible.

This little Yellow-faced Whip Snake was relocated from a property in Walloon after the homeowner spotted it near their back door.

Yellow-faced Whip Snakes (Demansia psammophis) are a mildly venomous species, but they are not normally considered dangerous to healthy adults. However, their venom can cause more serious reactions in pets, small children, or anyone with allergies, so it’s always best to keep a safe distance and give us a call if you’re unsure.

These snakes are fast, alert, and very active during the day, and they mainly feed on lizards and small frogs, which is why we often find them around gardens and homes where there’s plenty of food.

What to do if you see a whip snake:
• Keep your distance
• Keep pets and kids inside
• Don’t try to catch it yourself
• Take a photo if safe to do so and send it to us for ID

Most of the time, snakes are just passing through looking for food and will move on if left alone, but we’re always happy to help if needed.

As the weather starts cooling down across our local suburbs, snake behaviour starts to change. We often get called to houses more than people expect this time of year because snakes start looking for warm, dry places to shelter.

You might find snakes:
• Under tin or wood piles
• Inside sheds and garages
• Under houses
• In roof spaces
• Under tarps
• Around rock walls or concrete slabs

They aren’t trying to move in, they are just looking for somewhere warm and safe to ride out the cooler weather. This is called brumation (not hibernation), where reptiles slow down their metabolism but still move around on warm days.

Things you can do around your home:
• Remove or tidy up tin, wood and debris piles
• Keep grass shorter
• Block gaps under sheds and houses
• Check under tarps before lifting
• Be careful moving stored items that have been sitting for a while

Snakes are a normal part of living in our area, and most of the time they are just passing through.

If you ever need advice, identification or a snake relocated, you can always contact us.
