DON’T FORCE ME TO BE SOCIAL!
It may be really disappointing and frustrating when our dogs are not the social beings we expected them to be.

Many believe dogs should just naturally get along with other dogs, after all they’re the same species.

Some believe the “unsociable” dog has a behaviour problem that needs to be “fixed”.

Early, appropriately timed and correct socialisation is vitally important, but sometimes despite all of this, some dogs are just not that sociable.

Sometimes this can be improved, especially if the cause is from a negative experience, but genetics, breed tendencies, individual personalities, health and age all contribute to tolerance and sociability, which also change throughout life.

If we, as a human species, don’t get along with everyone we meet, how can we expect our dogs to?

Do we label every person that has an argument, doesn’t make friends with everyone they meet, doesn’t like every other person, prefers not to socialise - as having a problem that needs to be fixed?

Why is it so easy to accept that every individual person is different than to accept that every individual dog is different?

When we have done what we can to improve our dogs’ social skills, we need to accept and acknowledge our dogs for the individuals they are, allow and respect their choice of whether to be sociable or not and never force interactions that a dog is not comfortable with.

Hi, I’m Posie and I’m looking a home of my own.

I’m a fit, good looking young lass that’s ready to embark on my future journey with my forever family by my side.
If you have kids at home, I’d like to meet them first! I adore people and love getting pats and scratches.
I’ve met a few dogs here and I show playful behaviour! So if you have another dog, if they are well mannered they can come in and meet me!
I’d love to be inside when you are home and feel like a real member of your family. I’m smart as a whip and excel with basic obedience training and more. I’m food motivated and very attentive to my handler, someone that has an interest in continuing my development in this area would be the perfect match for me.

I’d love a secure yard to claim as my own, and as long as you provide me with me with some stimulation whilst you’re at work, I’ll be happy. I’d be a fantastic candidate for a dog sport if that tickles your fancy, if not, I promise to be the motivational workout buddy you’ve been waiting for!

My purchase fee has been reduced to half price to encourage my adoption, and I’m already desexed which means I’m ready to pack all my toys up to come home with you today!

Bugs is a lovely sweet girl who deserves a family and home of her own. Black dogs are often overlooked. I love seeing her and she will do anything for treats, but I hope she is adopted soon. I would rather miss seeing her, knowing she’s found a good home.

UPDATE: BUGS HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
🐛 Bugs #34267 🐛
Bugs has been with us now for 4 months, making her our longest termer. In that time she has had ZERO Expressions of Interest. She is 5 years old, already desexed and ready to go home. She has watched dogs come and go, yet she remains patient. 🙌
Most of the time, you can find her relaxing in the sun, shining through her kennel. She will press her whole body against the bars for a pat. She has been known to sit on the laps of Animal Attendants and fall asleep, despite her size, she makes it work. 🥰
She is so smart, and has learnt so much with the help of yummy treats and TLC. She would make an incredibly loyal companion. If you are looking for a gentle and loving family member, we have the one for you. 💕

For more information about Bugs, call 4645 4790 or check out her profile here.
