World Bee Day 🌏🐝
Bee Nerd - fun at home study in rural NSW
The 1st October 2025 to 31st March 2026 - unofficial Jessy "bee obsessed" study is in 🥁🥁🥁
36 native bee species come to, reside in & pollinate Araluen (property name).
2 introduced species also reside at Araluen.
There are NO residing European honey bees living at Araluen & only 1 sighted in the 6 month period.
There are probably more native bee numbers at Araluen, however, some photographs were only able to be correctly ID to a family group or genus & no further. Also, if I could hover in the tree tops 🌳🤣
Family numbers:
🥇Halictidae: 1️⃣5️⃣
🥈Colletidae: 1️⃣0️⃣
🥉Apidae: 6️⃣
🏅Megachilidae: 5️⃣
Araluen's land size is 10 acres. I've made many gardens with each focusing on a family - not that they don't share 😜 i also have a native garden, still young, but establishing & alot of native trees.
Pretty amazing numbers in my obsessed & amateur opinion.
My absolute favourite finds were:
🐝Rhopalimelissa sp
🧡Rhodohylaeus sp
❤️Sphecodes profugus (the 2nd recording in inaturalist in NSW, the 1st being right on the boarder with QLD)
Introduced species - African Carder Bee & Hotons Metallic-Furrow Bee.
📍Pine Ridge NSW - rural NSW, currently in a drought.
