🎉 HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉

As we ring in the new year, it’s important to help your cherished pets stay safe, secure, and comfortable at home.
Creating a quiet space with their favourite things, keeping them indoors, and ensuring all gates are securely locked can make a big difference during celebrations. Remember loud noises can frighten even the most well-adjusted animals

If the unexpected happens and you need afterhours veterinary care, we’re here for you.

We are open:
🐾 Tonight (31/12): 7pm – midnight
🐾 Tomorrow (1/01): 1pm – 9pm

Wishing you and your pets a safe and happy start to the year 🐶🐇🐱🦜🦎

🎅 COMMON CHRISTMAS TOXINS 🍫

The festive season is full of fun, food, and family, but it can also bring hidden risks for our pets.

Many everyday Christmas items can be harmful if curious paws or noses get into them. Knowing what to avoid (and what to do if your pet gets into something they shouldn’t) can make all the difference.

We’ve put together a helpful guide on our website, check it out here:
https://www.avwic.com.au/post/common-christmas-toxins-and-what-to-do-if-your-pet-eats-them

If your pet has ingested something harmful, don’t wait. Call us on (08) 7123 2996 to speak to one of our knowledgeable team or walk in during our business hours.

☀️ Warmer Weather Alert ☀️

Summer is well and truly here and as temperatures start to rise, our pets can be at increased risk of heat stress.

Whilst we most commonly see this condition in dogs, all companion animals including cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and birds can be vulnerable.

Here are a few simple tips to help keep your pets comfortable and safe:
💧 Always provide fresh, cool water.
🌳 Ensure they have access to shade and cool resting areas.
🐕 Walk dogs during the early morning or evening hours when temperatures are cooler.
🚗 Never leave pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
😮‍💨 Be aware of the symptoms of heat stress: excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhoea or in severe cases weakness and even collapse.

If you’re ever concerned your pet may be overheating, seek veterinary care immediately.
Prevention and early action can save lives.

Stay cool and enjoy the warmer days safely 🏖

📢 Important Update for Pet Owners 📢

We wanted to let our community know that, due to circumstances beyond our control, we are currently unable to access DACO to check microchip details and reunite lost pets with their owners. We expect this issue may continue throughout the Christmas and New Year period.

We typically see an increase in stray and displaced pets at this time of year, often due to families travelling and the rise in noise and fireworks.

How you can help keep your pets safe:

- Ensure your pet’s microchip details are registered with a national database (DACO is South Australia specific), and check the contact information is up to date.
- Use a collar with a clearly engraved phone number. (We often see tags that are worn and unreadable, so please check them)

We will provide further updates as they become available.

📢 Im-paw-tant update

Due to system upgrades, pet owner and breeder access to Dogs and Cats Online (DACO) is temporarily unavailable.

Need to register or update your pet's details?
Please contact us on 8408 1111 or [email protected]

We'll let you know as soon as access is restored!

✨️Meet sweet Toffee✨️

Little Toffee recently came to see us after an accident at home left her non-weight bearing on her right hind leg. After an examination it was was suspected that she may have dislocated her hip!
Our team quickly confirmed the injury with X-rays, and then carefully placed her hip back where it needed to be under a short general anaesthetic.

Toffee was such a gentle and lovely girl throughout her treatment and has been back for her rechecks and ongoing pain management as she continues to heal.

Her wonderful mum and dad have been incredibly supportive and even surprised us with some choccies as a thank you! 🍫 We’re so grateful for such lovely clients and the trust you place in us.

Swipe to see Toffee’s X-rays before and after the procedure 🐾 🩻
