This absolutely stunning filly has arrived, and I couldn’t be happier with her. She is an absolute little beauty! 🥰🐴

With plenty of years' experience mustering on properties, along with 6 months droving cattle in North Queensland, I'm comfortable working all types of country—from flats and open scrub to rocky terrain and steep hills.

Please welcome Blackberry, a handsome 10-year-old Welsh Pony gelding standing at approximately 12hh. 🖤🤍

Blackberry is eligible to be registered with the Welsh Association and has lovely, flashy movement that would catch anyone's eye.

At this stage, Blackberry isn't ready to find his forever home just yet. He has quite a bit of anxiety and lacks confidence, so he'll be spending time with us working through his nerves and building trust before he's offered to the right family.

We believe every horse deserves the chance to shine, and we're looking forward to helping Blackberry become the best version of himself. ❤️

✨ Bittersweet Day for Brum ✨

One of the best parts of my job is seeing owners get back on their horses with confidence. One of the hardest parts is saying goodbye when it's time for them to go home.

Today was Brum's mum's first ride on him since he came into training, and it was such a special moment. ❤️

Brum arrived as a young, snorty toddler who needed a reset, education, and plenty of miles under his belt to help him become a safe and reliable partner for his mum. Through consistency, patience, and plenty of learning experiences, he's grown into a much more confident horse ready for the next chapter.

As with many first rides back on a horse that's been away for training, his owner was understandably a little nervous. To help build her confidence, we started with Brum in a halter while she focused on steering and getting a feel for him again. Before long, the halter came off and she was comfortably riding and controlling him herself. Seeing that confidence grow throughout the session was just as rewarding as seeing how well Brum handled himself. ❤️

Watching his owner climb aboard and enjoy that first ride made all the hard work worthwhile. Now Brum has officially graduated and is heading home to continue his journey with his mum.

Good luck, Brum! I'm so proud of how far you've come, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for you both. 🐴✨

One thing I like to do with my horses is safely teach them not to panic if something unexpected happens around the saddle.

Today we worked on pretending to fall off and getting "caught" in the stirrup. The goal isn't to create fear—it's to teach the horse to stop, think, and stay calm instead of reacting and running if a rider ever becomes unbalanced.

A horse's natural instinct is flight, but through patient training and gradual exposure, they can learn that movement, pressure, and unusual situations don't always mean danger.

Safety always comes first, and these exercises are done carefully and progressively to build confidence in both horse and rider. A calm horse that can handle unexpected situations is worth its weight in gold.

Training isn't just about teaching horses what to do when everything goes right—it's about preparing them for when things don't go to plan.

One of the ways I prepare ponies to be toddler and child-proof 🐴❤️

A big part of my training is exposing ponies to the things they're likely to encounter around young children. Toddlers can be unpredictable, so it's important that ponies learn to stay calm, think through situations, and look to their handler for guidance.

This doesn't happen overnight. It takes time, patience, consistency, and making sure every experience is a positive one for the pony. The goal isn't to make them "bombproof"—it's to build confidence and trust so they can handle new situations without overreacting.

Every pony progresses at their own pace, but watching them gain confidence and become safer partners for families is one of the most rewarding parts of the job. 🥰🐴

As always, no matter how quiet a pony is, children should be supervised around horses at all times. ❤️

Why I Use Electrical Tape Instead of Rubber Bands in My Horses' Manes & Tails

A question I get asked a lot is why I prefer using electrical tape instead of rubber bands when doing manes and tails.

For me, it's all about protecting the horse's hair. Rubber bands can pull, snap, tangle, and break hairs, especially when they're left in for a while or when a horse rubs. Electrical tape is gentler on the hair and helps reduce unnecessary breakage.

I also find that electrical tape holds better, stays secure longer, and is less likely to tighten excessively as it sits in the mane or tail. When applied correctly, it can be removed with minimal damage compared to cutting out a tangled rubber band.

As someone who spends a lot of time handling and training horses, I try to make choices that keep them comfortable while also looking neat and professional.

Everyone has their own preferences, and this is simply what works best for me and the horses in my care. A healthy, full mane and tail will always be more important to me than convenience.

💥Working Horses With a Spinal Injury💥

One of those days I definitely felt sore after working horses.

Having a spinal injury means there are good days and there are days where my body reminds me that I need to slow down and recover. Today was one of those days.

A lot of people assume that if you're working horses, you must be completely pain-free. The reality is that many people with injuries learn how to adapt, manage their condition, and continue doing what they love while understanding their limits.

As a trainer, I've learned that horsemanship isn't about strength. It's about timing, feel, patience, and communication. Some days I can do more than others, and that's something I've had to accept.

Does my back get sore? Absolutely. Do I have to be mindful of what I ask of my body? Every single day. But that doesn't take away my passion for helping horses and their owners.

Days like today are a reminder that recovery and management are ongoing. Sometimes the horses progress, and sometimes the lesson is simply listening to your body and knowing when it's time to rest.

Having a spinal injury doesn't stop me from training horses—it just means I approach the job differently.

To anyone dealing with an injury while chasing their passion: be patient with yourself, know your limits, and remember that adapting isn't giving up. It's finding a way forward. 🐴💙
