Just a quick post on Paralysis Ticks & Snakes
Did you know;
Ticks are out all year round, however they become more active during the warmer, humid months.
Whilst fleas, Brown dog Ticks, etc aren't venomous, Paralysis Ticks are extremely venomous!
They cause paralysis and death!
If your pet has no protection, they will 100% need an anti venom and there is no guarantee that this will be enough to save your pet, even if your pet is using constant prevention, there is still no guarantee! Anti venom is in very short supply through most vets in NSW.
I can NOT express this enough, tick PREVENTION is the difference between life or death. Please use a preventative.
Oral preventatives are best as they get into the blood flow the fastest. They are given like a treat, and they can swim, bath, etc immediately after. Effective hours after taking.
*Nexgard spectra is my go to. Used it for over 10yrs. I use it on my chihuahua x he's 4kg. Never a problem with it. He has had one tick, but luckily no side effects at all.
Spot ons are ok, but take 24-48hrs to take effect and your pet must stay dry during this time.
Collars- very ineffective and really only protect the neck/ area where the collar sits.
Prevention is always better than treatment.
You should routinely treat your pets for Ticks, fleas, worms &/ heartworm atleast once a month! If your a day late, it still matters, again, it's the difference between life and death.
Please check your pets thoroughly 2-3 times daily, especially around the anus/bits, ear canals, between paw pads and nails, lips & gums, under the tongue, eyebrows, groin- everywhere.
Ticks removers/twisters are available at pet stores and vets. If you find a tick and aren't comfortable removing it, please contact your vet immediately or me to remove it asap.
Snakes are also out and about in full force!
Most Snakes are highly venomous, should you see your pet near one, recall / redirect and bring them inside asap, if you suspect your pet has been bitten, even if your not sure they were bit or not, please rush them to the nearest veterinary clinic for anti venom.
Stay safe my little darlings π I love you all so much!
All my love
