All ready to go to work and the kids tell me there is a swarm! Turns out one of my littlest hives decided to abandon their home for whatever reason and move on out! I caught the queen and trapped her in the box then let her free this afternoon. Good spot kiddo!

Big day farming bees today. Swapped out my boxes for as the wood has rotted and split. The frames are still good to go so I’ll keep using them, just have to harvest them outside the hive now.

4 hives have mites. Heat treated them all today and will watch the oil traps over the next week to see how many mites come out. I’ll leave the bees for a month and treat them again to keep the mites at bay.

Beekeeping has changed!!! Much more hands on and I’m getting super quick at finding the queen haha!

Quiet on the front at the moment. Varroa has us working hard behind the scenes on treatment of the mites and preserving our chemical free status. Yes, I have chemical treatments here ready to go, but if I can hang on and continue to delivery chemical free product, that’s my goal.

Recycling oil for my small hive beetle and varroa traps (why throw it out when I can filter and reuse???!!).

Play “Spot the Varroa Mite”.

The current infested hive…. The others probably have it now but I’ll test them in a couple of weeks. Back to work I go tomorrow!

👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎 Let’s see how long it takes for the mite to take over now. This is on you one job….

Operation build my native bees!
These little ladies are not affected by varroa mite at all so building up my base hives to hopefully sell off colonies in the future. They don’t make much but they are an important part of our flora and faura! 🐝 🍯

Possibly the last of the 2025 honey season, the rain hasn’t made for the best season I’ve had. Next year I’ll be full steam ahead with four, maybe six hives 🐝 🍯

Stay away Verroa Mite, you can’t sit with us. Still VM free at this stage! Won’t be long as they are around. :(

Storm after storm rolling in. Bees are locked up tight in their hives to wait it out. Both a blessing and a curse, rain means more honey in the long term but less in the short term as the nectar is washed away. Plants bounce back and we shall Pooh Bear our way up again 🍯 🐻

Not me but still sucks hard :( only a matter of time now… will test on the next inspection in two weeks…
