Do you practice any impulse control exercises with your puppy?

It's an important skill to learn and something we cover in our puppy classes.

Here is an article we use for our students that teaches them step by step how to achieve this level of focus, as demonstrated here by Retired Police Dog Santos and his cucumbers!

Puppies took us from one end of Perth to the other on the weekend as we did a couple of home visits for our current students.

Here is Ben the Bordoodle, proving that toilet training in an apartment can be easy.
When Ben first came home, he was toileting on absorbent wee pads, so we have been slowly transitioning him over to using a more appropriate toilet at home.

Given Ben is lucky enough to have a park at his doorstep, his Mum & Dad knew his daily routine would eventually be to exercise and toilet there. It then made sense that his training at home should start to look and feel like the real thing.

Whilst we were there, we helped with a couple of training exercises around the house to set boundaries into areas like the kitchen and reinforce calm indoor behaviour.

Ben is 11 weeks old and has improved so much in the last couple of weeks we have been helping to train him. His Mum and Dad have shown an amazing commitment to his development!.

Resurrection!

We've been quiet on the social media front for a little while now because we have just been SO busy.

Since we last posted we have trained 75 puppies, opened a second location within Shelley Vet Clinic and Aimee has been working towards a certification in Canine Rehabilitation.

Since the restrictions have eased around Covid-19 we have been overwhelmed by the amount of enrolments for our puppy classes.

It's great to see pet owners showing such commitment to their puppies development!

Standby for cute puppy photo spam...maybe some useful posts in-between...

And we're back!
We hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year.
Last year, since forming in April, we responded to over 200 puppy related email queries, printed over 1700 pages of training material and trained 34 puppies.
Tonight we commence our first course for 2018.
Good luck to our first round of students!

Dog Life Hack #6

The warmer months are upon us and as we transition to summer, our fur friends will take a little while longer to shed their winter coats.

Doggy ice treats are a good way to help keep your dog cool and mentally stimulated over the warmer months.

A example of a simple ice treat is to use a foam cup, freeze half a carrot in either chicken or beef stock and once it's frozen peel away the cup and serve!

Ice treats can contain anything your dog likes however, remember to use them in moderation as too much of a good thing can upset your dog’s tummy.

If your dog is inclined to swallow things whole, ensure the size is appropriate.
