If you know Baxter and Turbo and their slave Mikelann! You’ll know they’re all doing it very tough at the moment, so a group of their friends have organised a gofundme page to help out, please help share the love ❤️ 💰❤️💰❤️💰and hope Turbo returns to us very soon!

Quite a few of our fur friends have left us lately, let’s hope we can do something for this one and keep him pawed side down!!

Thinking of you Mikelann, Turbo, Baxter and little Bessie ❤️

Dear fellow furr parents, Turbo has been through the woods and back and as you are all aware als… Claudia Dohr needs your support for Turbo the comeback King

Lovely time of year 😍

The Noongar season of Kambarang is upon us. 🌼

At this time of year we start to see the weather warming up. This is marked by the blooming of the yellow flowers, namely the Mooja or the Australian Christmas tree.

October is also the most likely time of the year that you'll encounter a snake as they start to awaken from their hibernation, make sure you keep your eyes peeled when out and about. 🐍

It's also a time that many young families of birds will be singing out for their parents to feed them. Koolbardies or Magpies will also be out protecting their nests and their babies - it's officially the start of swooping season!

The days are getting longer and warmer and many baby animals can be seen.

⚠️ Danger In The Dunes ⚠️

For the second time (that I know of) in about 5 years on Hillarys and Whitfords Dog Beach, a loved but wanderlust inclined dog, has discovered and eaten DOPE that has been buried in the dunes.

Both time the dog has been extremely sick and had to be very quickly taken to the vet, and the owners distraught and fearful of their beloved pet dying.

It seems some people habitually secrete drugs in the dunes either to evade them being found at home, or conduct drug deals in a remote location.

These two dogs, a beagle and a retriever have been lucky, but a smaller pet may not be so lucky in future!

Please, please be very careful if your dog decamps into the dunes, or if your dog seems stoned shortly after being at the beach or as you lead them away and put them in the car.

Please share this post with other dog lovers, thanks Andy 😃

Despite the Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia Inc. and the media interest in this exposed asbestos debris last week, it’s still here despite City of Joondalup Council Civic Chambers coming fora poke around.

Don’t they know it’s a “safety issue”? Talking to a COJ ranger, the way to get something done is for more people to call COJ on 1300655860 and report it. Let’s get rid of this unmarked menace on our beach!

At our sometimes over-crowded animal exercise beach, we know very well we need an extension to our own very, very popular dog beach, however this could be ameliorated if dogs were allowed on more beaches, especially at early hours when doggy walkers are active, and normal beach goers aren’t, swimmers not withstanding!!

Remember, dog owners come from Ellenbrook, Morley, Midland and many other places to our COJ beaches, they’re not just the COJ ratepayers!

Please voice your support for more well behaved dog access to beaches and anywhere!!

Do you think we need more dog beaches? If so, where do you suggest? 🐶💦

The City of Wanneroo is proposing new dog beaches and is considering extending some of the current ones.

Tell us your thoughts 👇💬

While we're on the subject... and because it's a Monday... we'd love to see a pic of your pooch. 📷😄

And don't forget to introduce them and tell us their breed / quirks.

Here are the shacks probably made of the asbestos fragments that are now becoming visible on our dog beach, in this article from a Joondalup Council magazine circa 2014, it talks of these shacks been on Whitfords Beach in the 1950s that’s probably when fibro sheeting had a higher asbestos fibre content. They probably fell into disrepair and were an easy target to be smashed into small pieces liberating fibres for the Freo Doctor to blow inland!

Maybe this will rekindle interest in buying the book from the council offices, then they can be shown the likely source of the pieces! 🤪

More information about the hazardous materials that are being liberated by the erosion to the sand dunes on Hillarys Dog Beach. Kids play in this mixture of sand and asbestos material complete with nails, glass and wire, which migrates down to the waters edge, where to the people ignorant of what it is, use it as stones for skimming.

It’s probably not legal for anyone to say if you find any, pick it up with a wet dog bag and put it in the bin!

Some tips here on what to do, when you see asbestos in your community

04/01/2022

After being visible for six months, this is finally getting attention. COJ told me several months ago they were aware of this, and responded with a line of tape, which did nothing to stop kids playing in it, and adults sitting amongst it.

If this was a school it would have been closed right away. Andy.
