Don't Go Astray Inc - Helping Animals In Need

Don't Go Astray Inc - Helping Animals In Need Don't Go Astray Inc. help surrendered and stray animals in need. Don't Go Astray helps animals in need, giving them the second chance they deserve.

We assist with veterinary treatment, rehabilitation, fostering and re-homing of animals that just want to be loved. Our not-for-profit organisation was formed in June 2018, and within six months was honoured with the RSPCA Humane Award – a huge deal for newcomers such as ourselves. This encouragement has galvanised our passion and commitment and we became a registered not for profit February 2019.

Driven by a shared desire to make a positive impact, our team's mission is to make a difference in the lives of surrendered and stray animals. Each member of Don't Go Astray comes from the veterinary and animal rescue industry, pooling a broad range of complementary skills. Together, our aim is not just to care for animals, but to provide assistance for people unable to meet the financial cost of emergency veterinary care.

✨ Meet June Bug - Our 3 legged Bun Bun✨

When June Bug arrived in our care, it was clear she had been through more than any little bunny should. She’d been surrendered with an old, non-healing leg fracture — one that sadly couldn’t be repaired. To give her the comfort and quality of life she deserved, our vets made the decision to amputate the damaged limb.
Despite everything, this brave girl handled her surgery like a champ and is now recovering beautifully.

June Bug came to us as an entire female, and with a name that didn’t quite match her sweet personality… so we happily renamed her to something as charming as she is. 💛

Once she’s fully healed and feeling settled, she’ll be desexed, microchipped, and EC tested before she starts looking for her forever home. She’s already been vaccinated and is showing us more of her personality every day — including her wonderfully sassy side!

June Bug may be tiny, but her spirit is enormous. We can’t wait to watch her continue to blossom. 🐰💫

We will need to recoup some veterinary costs for our June Bug.
If you can please donate, it is much appreciated.

Are you ready...? ⚡

We've had a new litter enter care, the gentleman in photo one is male and everybody else is female, with 5 babies in total.

These bubs were found on a construction site with no sign of mama and fortunately were able to check them out and help them find a place with us!

Can you help us name them? 🐾

We will start their vet work once they are big enough and while we are not accepting applications yet we are excited to introduce them to you!

ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS 🐾

Have you found yourself wishing you had less personal space? Do the other animals in your household need to be squished, nipped, tackled and bathed more than they are?

Do you find yourself:
🐾 Wishing someone would take your undergarments while you're in the shower
🐾 Liking to be surprised by a crab walk around the corners of your home
🐾 Hoping more of your day was dedicated to creating a blanket tent on the couch for a small creature to live in

We have the perfect cat for you 🫶
Karate has finished his vet work and he is ready for his forever home! Karate wants to sleep on top of you, your spouse, children and other pets. He does not recognise personal space at all and loves to be close to you.

He's playful and fun (though mischievous) and absolutely adores wrestling his foster sister, Poppet. He will spend all of his energy to get underneath your blanket to sleep curled up with you.

If you think you have space in your heart and home for Karate, please head to our website and submit an adoption questionnaire! If you're not in a position to adopt right now, please share, like and comment to help Karate find his forever home! 💞

Do you remember ROSA?
She was taken to a Vet Hospital by her owners to euthanase because she "did her job", she had her litter of puppies and they didn't want her anymore 😭😭😭.

Instead, they were willing to surrender her (thank goodness).

When we first got her home, she hid in the wardrobe for weeks - she would not come out. She barely ate and would cower if anyone tried to coax her out or move near her.

The only thing that was able to get her out of the wardrobe was another rescue dog at the time, Holly. She would lay by the wardrobe to comfort Rosa, and eventually, she decided, it was time to venture out.

After some time, she realised she could trust humans again and, in a few months of TLC, was adoption ready!

We had a lovely lady who had been following her story for months and contacted us. She was driving to Perth from Tom Price (16 hr drive). When Rosa met her, she immediately warmed to her, and in a weeks time, she became the desert Queen of Tom Price!

Now, a few years later, Rosa and her mum live in the Hunter Valley (NSW), and Rosa was able to go to Tasmania for a getaway and see snow for the first time!

We love this so much! She is living her life to the very fullest!

We have some fantastic news about ROY!

Roy has officially become a foster fail — his foster pawrents have fallen head over heels for him and decided he’s staying for good! He’s truly become part of their family and settled into their lifestyle perfectly.

Roy is one happy little guy! He already knows how to sit, shake hands, is almost fully toilet trained, and absolutely loves zooming around the rural property.

We couldn’t be happier for you, ROY! 🐾

Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to raise over $150 towards Roy’s veterinary care — thank you so much for your support!

From life behind bars to a loving forever home — what a journey!

Wishing you all the best, ROY! 💙

Meet our newest case, ROY! 5 months old American Staffy X

Roy was found wandering the streets of Perth near a construction site and was taken to the pound. With no microchip and no one coming forward despite being advertised, this little guy was left without a home.

That’s when DGA stepped in – or rather, Roy stepped into our hearts! He’s absolutely adorable and full of charm.

He’s a playful puppy, very social with other dogs, and a happy little character all around. He’d fit beautifully into a variety of family lifestyles (though he hasn’t been tested with cats yet).

Roy will be starting his vet work soon, so he’s not quite ready for adoption just yet as he adjusts to life outside the slammer. Stay tuned!

He will need to raise money for his veterinary work! If you can't donate at this time, please share his story - It all really helps us!
