Advanced Tracking Club of Western Australia (Inc)

Advanced Tracking Club of Western Australia (Inc) Advanced Tracking Club of WA, is dedicated to the training of tracking dogs in Western Australia. ATC formed in September 2009.

ATCis a group of people, who have an interest in the dogs ability to follow a scent. A very broad topic with many aspects to pursue. Any dog of any age can participate. ATC members can also become involved in street tracking where you are taught how to read the dog whilst tracking in the surburban streets. Also taught is radio communications and map making. Most ATC members move onto trialling the

ir dogs for both tracking dogs (bush tracking) and then when more advanced, trial for track and search, which involves street tracking. whatever level your interest extends to. In line with ATC's purpose to challenge the dogs and expand the olfactory, ATC supported the official ANKC Working Party to introduce the sport of Scent Work to WA

Scent Work challenges dogs to locate and identify a variety of odour in various environments . Proudly ATC welcomes to WA the sport of ANKC Scent Work .Official Gazetted Sanctioned Trials under ANKC Rules will be run 2021 . Rules are located on DogsWest official web site .

On Sunday the 31st May we held our first tracking trial of 2026—what an absolutely wild and blustery way to kick off the season!

We had four teams take on their tracks, and despite the wind and rain, they all did an incredible job. It was fantastic to see a few new faces at base camp, which we always love, and with three out of four teams passing, there was plenty to celebrate over lunch.

As always, the camaraderie and friendships at base camp are what make these days so special. Pass or fail, we’re all there to support each other—and that’s what it’s all about 💛🖤

What an incredible day! 🐾

ATC held our annual Scent Work Trial on Sunday 3rd May, and we couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who helped make it such a success.

A huge thank you to our wonderful judges — Karren McCluskey (Masters Interiors), Breanna Clancy (Excellent Interiors), and Ben Allen (Novice & Advanced Vehicles). Your time, expertise, and support are so appreciated.

To our amazing volunteers, and everyone who stepped up on the day to lend a hand — thank you! Every little bit of help made a difference and kept the day running smoothly.

To all our competitors, thank you for supporting our club and for your patience throughout the day. We truly appreciate each and every one of you.

We are incredibly grateful to our generous sponsors — Pet Fresh Prosperity Pet Perth Scent Work Southern Raw Pet Meats Better Pets and Gardens Denver Designs, and Zen Dog Training. — for providing such fantastic prizes for our place getters and Judges Awards.

Our AM and PM raffles were a big hit, with both prizes going off to winners who were present — and on the first numbers drawn too! 🎉

A big shoutout to Noeleen and her team from Caffeine Fiend for keeping everyone well fed and caffeinated, and to Pet Fresh for spoiling our four-legged friends with delicious treats.

It was truly a fantastic day, and we hope everyone had as much fun with their dogs as we did — because at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. 🐶💛

Advanced Tracking Club AGM Wrap-Up

Last night we held our Annual General Meeting, with just over 50% of our current financial members in attendance — a wonderful show of support for our club.

A huge congratulations to Karren McCluskey, who was the very deserving recipient of the Jerry Haagadorn Memorial Trophy 👏

We were also thrilled to present 12 new title sashes celebrating the achievements of our members: • 7 Tracking Dog
• 1 Tracking Dog Excellent
• 2 Tracking Champion
• 2 Tracking Grand Champion
What an incredible effort by all handlers and dogs involved!

We are honoured to announce the renaming of Honey Gross-Richardson as our Club Patron.

Following Di Bolger’s retirement from the role, Karren McCluskey has been appointed as our new Training Coordinator. Thank you, Karren, for stepping into this important position.

In her President’s Report, Susan Briggs paid tribute to the late Glenda Wellman, and acknowledged the outstanding contribution of the now-retired Di Bolger. Susan also sincerely thanked all members and volunteers for their continued support throughout the 2025 season.

Thank you to Marilyn Ive-Smith for presenting the Treasurer’s Report, and to Karren for delivering the training report covering last year’s training groups.

The 2025 Executive formally stood down, with Audrey Margery-Muir stepping in as Returning Officer. We are pleased to announce our new Executive Committee:
• President: Susan Briggs
• Vice President: Iain McIntosh
• Secretary: Bree Lumsden
• Treasurer: Marilyn Ive-Smith

We also welcome Rachel Evans as a new Committee Member, joining existing committee members Karren McCluskey, Desley Bouwhuis and Sheree Stuart.

The evening concluded with light refreshments, plenty of laughter, and shared memories — a lovely way to reflect on the year that was and look ahead to 2026.

Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to support our wonderful club 🐾

💛 In Memory of Glenda 💛

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Glenda Wellman, a truly significant, warm, and cherished member of our Advanced Tracking Club family.

Glenda was a beloved mum, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and the matriarch of her family.

Her passing was unexpected and has come as a shock to many. Glenda passed away peacefully at home in Wandi on Thursday 15 January, surrounded by her loving family.

Glenda was a huge part of our club. She was always one to stop on her way in to say hello and have a chat with all of our training groups, making everyone feel welcome and valued.

She served on committee for many years and was our Treasurer for a long time, playing an instrumental role in shaping the club we know today. Glenda was the driving force behind our amazing club trailer and base camp setup, helping make trial days as special and well-run as they are.

Training and trialling Bailey brought Glenda immense joy, and last year she also began trialling Meika, whom she absolutely loved.

On trial days she was often accompanied by her husband Peter. Her grandson Tyler would also come out to track lay for her. It was always heart-warming to see the special bond Glenda shared with him.

Glenda brought kindness, dedication, and light to our club, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. 💛
