This is Moe, for those of you who don’t know Moe, she is our somewhat elderly, exceptionally funny survivor of a chicken who has been with us for somewhere around 8 or 9 years now.
During her life Moe has been through some hardship and lived through some traumatic events. When we got Moe she was still a wee little chick, and what feels like a lifetime ago she suffered with a Pasty butt. Chicks can get a Pasty butt for many different reasons, some being: stress, bad diet or gross water. I don’t remember much, but I do remember my father holding this tiny chick while gently using an oily Q tip to separate the solid faecal matter from her bottom.
Later in her life Moe hit another hard patch, she was attacked by a fox! But thankfully out of some incredible miracle Moe managed to escape the foxes jaw and hobble to a nearby hay pile where we were able to quickly rush her to safety. Moe being the extremely resilient chicken she is healed exceptionally, and for a few years there were no major tragedies or traumatic events I can recall.
A few years ago we had a huge tragedy where many beautiful life’s were lost, and Moe had to mourn a few of her beloved flock members.
Moe has been with us through it all, moving coops, introducing new flock members, and through heart breaking losses. Today Moe is thriving, her days have been pretty smooth sailing and she is happy to just plod around and soak up the sun.
