Know someone who needs help desexing their cat or dog? This month is National Desexing Month with discounts and programs nationwide to help stem the flow of unwanted puppies and kittens.

Spay It Forward is proud to partner with the National Desexing Network (NDN) this July to help vulnerable WA families desex their pets and break the cycle of unwanted litters. 🐕🐈

NDN is an Australia-wide referral network working to end pet overpopulation by making desexing affordable for pet owners doing it tough — and that’s exactly what we’re here for too!

While Spay It Forward runs year-round, National Desexing Month is a special opportunity to raise awareness and connect even more eligible pet owners to help across Western Australia.💛

While we work with over 30 trusted veterinary partners, from Mt Barker to Geraldton and everywhere in between! The NDN is helping us highlight our amazing rural clinics on their map of participating locations:

🚨 Bunny Owners – Important Alert! 🚨
A rabbit calicivirus (K5) release is planned for Perth and other regions of Western Australia THIS MONTH.

This virus is highly contagious and deadly for unvaccinated domestic rabbits. Please check your local council website for details of release sites and dates.

🐰 How to Keep Your Bunny Safe:
✅ Vaccinate before the release, or make sure vaccinations are up to date.
✅ Keep rabbits indoors to minimise risk. If your bunny must be outside their enclosure should be completely covered with insect mesh.
✅ Avoid contact with wild rabbits and disinfect with F10 veterinary disinfectant after being in their habitat.
✅ Install and repair fly screens—flies and other insects can spread the virus.
✅ Wash hands & disinfect supplies with F10 before handling your rabbit.

⚠️ Watch for Symptoms of Rabbit Calicivirus (RHDV):
🚨 Loss of appetite, lethargic
🚨 Fever and difficulty breathing
🚨 Bleeding from the nose or mouth
🚨 Seizures or sudden passing

If your rabbit shows any of these signs, seek veterinary help immediately. 🏥

ENRICHMENT IDEAS - FOR HOT WEATHER & BEYOND

We are all taking less walks in hot weather (I hope!) so what else can we do to keep our dogs happy and healthy during these times? It's called ENRICHMENT - keeping your dog's nose and mind busy and fulfil their needs and urges that cannot be met by physical exercise alone. Similar games also work with other animals, from rats to horses!
