๐Ÿ‘‚ Which ear do you think is infected? ๐Ÿ‘‚
Slide to see if you guessed right!

Ear infections can sometimes be tricky to spot โ€” but redness, inflammation, and discharge (like in ear B) are key warning signs that your pet needs a vet check.

Left untreated, ear infections can become painful and may even cause hearing loss or balance issues โ€” so early diagnosis makes all the difference.

๐Ÿ’š Annieโ€™s Post-Op Check ๐Ÿ’š

Beautiful Annie came in for her post-operative check with Dr Kate after undergoing life-saving surgery to treat a pyometra โ€” a serious infection of the uterus that can occur in unspayed female dogs.

Pyometra can develop quickly and, if left untreated, can be fatal. Luckily her family were onto it quickly and Annie is doing amazingly well!

Early signs can include:
โš ๏ธ Increased thirst or urination
โš ๏ธ Lethargy
โš ๏ธ Loss of appetite
โš ๏ธ Vaginal discharge

Weโ€™re so happy to report that Annie is recovering beautifully and feeling much better! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’–

๐Ÿ‘‚ 6 Signs Your Pet Might Have an Ear Infection ๐Ÿ‘‚

Ear infections are one of the most common issues we see in pets โ€” and catching them early makes all the difference. From head shaking to strong odours or sensitivity around the ears, these signs can mean your pet is in pain and needs a vet check.

If you notice any of these symptoms, donโ€™t wait. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent long-term damage and keep those ears happy and healthy.

๐Ÿ’š Happy Veterinary Nurse Day! ๐Ÿ’š

Today weโ€™re celebrating our incredible Veterinary Nurses โ€” the quiet heroes working tirelessly behind the scenes to care for your pets every single day. ๐Ÿพ

Vet nurses are so much more than animal lovers (though theyโ€™re definitely that too!). They:
โœจ Monitor your pets during anaesthesia and recovery
โœจ Collect blood and run in-house lab tests
โœจScrub in and assist in surgery
โœจ Perform physio and laser therapy
โœจ Provide emotional support to reduce fear and stress
โœจ Educate pet owners on everything from nutrition to parasite prevention
โœจ Comfort patients who are sick, scared or recovering โ€” often giving them the cuddles and reassurance they need most

They are the heart of every veterinary clinic, compassionate, skilled, and deeply dedicated to making sure every patient receives the very best care.

To our amazing team of nurses at Great Western Animal Hospital โ€” thank you for everything you do, the care you give, and the heart you put into every shift. ๐Ÿ’š

If your pet has ever been cared for by one of our nurses, take a moment today to say thank you, they truly make a world of difference.

Handsome Rocky Lee was in on Saturday for his annual vaccinations โ€” and he was such a good boy! ๐Ÿ’š

As the weather warms up and more pets are out and about at parks, beaches, and playdates, we tend to see a rise in preventable diseases like parvovirus, kennel cough, and leptospirosis.

These illnesses can spread quickly and can be life-threatening, especially for unvaccinated pets. Keeping your petโ€™s vaccinations up to date is the best way to protect them (and the community) from these serious diseases.

If youโ€™re not sure when your petโ€™s next vaccine is due, give us a call or book online today โ€” weโ€™re here to help keep your furry family members safe this spring. ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿพ
