The start of a new years offers a valuable opportunity to pause and revisit our core values. As a team, taking time to reflect on what truly matters will realign our actions, decisions and goals for 2026.

🐾 Our Core Values 🐾
At BPVS and PRAH, we believe exceptional veterinary care is about so much more than medicine — it’s about people, pets, and the way we show up every single day. 💛

✨ Enthusiasm
We bring energy, positivity and a genuine love for what we do. Whether it’s a routine check-up or a tricky case, we’re all-in for every patient.

😄 Humour
Vet life can be messy, unpredictable and full of surprises — so we keep things light where we can. A little laughter goes a long way in helping pets (and their humans!) feel at ease.

🤝 Respect
Every pet, every owner and every team member is treated with kindness and understanding. No judgement, ever — just support and partnership.

💗 Compassion
Your pets are family, and we care for them as if they were our own. We’re here to listen, comfort, guide and advocate when it matters most.

🐶 Teamwork
Behind every successful visit is a team working seamlessly together. Vets, nurses, receptionists — we collaborate to ensure your pet gets the very best.

🫶 Trust
We know how important it is to feel confident in your pet’s care. Transparency, communication and integrity are at the core of every decision we make.

Thank you for trusting us with your furry loved ones. These values guide us, inspire us, and shape every moment we spend caring for your pets. 💕🐾

A cat suddenly showing aggression is worthy of investigation. Aggression can be a sign of discomfort or stress. Possible causes include pain, fear, overstimulation, territorial behaviour or illness. 🐱

Sudden aggression shouldn’t be ignored. It’s important to rule out medical issues first, then look at environmental or behavioural triggers. 💛

If your cat’s behaviour has changed suddenly, book a vet check today.

Dogs show stress in many ways, including excessive panting, pacing, trembling, yawning, lip licking, pinned ears, hiding, or sudden reactivity. These behaviours often appear during storms, vet visits or unfamiliar situations. 🌧️

Now you know the subtle signs of canine stress. If your dog shows frequent stress signs, book a consultation with our team. Early support can prevent escalation and help your dog find calm again. 🐶

Cats can develop separation anxiety, especially if routines change or they’re closely bonded to their owners. Signs include clinginess, excessive meowing, house-soiling, overgrooming or reduced appetite when left alone. 🐾

Cats can struggle with alone time too. If you’ve noticed behavioural changes after time apart, chat to our team. Support and management strategies are available to help. 😊

Unfortunately, some large breed dogs such as labradors and golden retrievers are particularly prone to an airway issue called laryngeal paralysis.

This is a condition where the muscles that control the larynx (the opening of the windpipe) lose function, so that the flow of air into and out of the pet’s airways and lungs becomes restricted. 🫁

Pets with this issue may show unusually noisy or effortful breathing, gagging, coughing, or a change in their bark. Unfortunately, these pets will also increasingly struggle with exercise, particularly in warm conditions.

If you notice any changes in your pet’s energy levels or breathing, book a check-up with our veterinary team. 📅

Christmas Wishes from Norman 😻

Thank you all for being kind to my people this year - they work hard. And I, their fearless leader, keep a close eye on things. Wishing you all a calm and safe Christmas with well-fed pets, quiet naps and few (or no) emergency centre visits.

Beautiful Martha Mae visited us yesterday to share some Christmas cheer and celebrate her 14th birthday. After facing a few health challenges this year, she is now doing wonderfully and heading into 2026 strong - all thanks to the devoted love and care of her family.

Meet George, the 8 week old British Bulldog who visited us for his first health check. With that gorgeous face of wrinkles and cuteness overload, he had everyone smitten the moment he walked in.

🎄 Pet holiday hazards to watch for this Christmas!

Chocolate, fatty foods and garbage scraps are some of the most common causes of pet emergencies over the festive season.

🍫 Chocolate can cause vomiting, restlessness or even seizures.
🍖 Fatty foods like ham or BBQ meats may trigger pancreatitis.
🗑️ Spoiled food from bins can lead to “garbage toxicity”, tremors or seizures.

Keep festive treats out of reach and contact the clinic or the Animal Poisons Helpline if your pet eats something they shouldn’t.
