This is the Raw Meow shop freezer doing what she does best.

Not cute. Not styled. Not fancy.

Just real raw food, already portioned, already balanced, already frozen, and ready for cats who apparently expect restaurant service several times a day.

If you’re in Perth, this is one of the easiest ways to feed raw without having to do all the prep yourself. You can pop in, choose what suits your cat, take it home, thaw it and feed it.

And if you’re not in Perth, this is still very much possible at home.

A lot of people think if their cat sniffs raw food and walks away, that’s the end of it.

It usually isn’t.

Cats are cautious. New smells, new textures, new routines, new bowls, new everything… it can all be a bit much, especially for cats who have been eating the same food for years.

That’s why I always suggest starting with a tiny amount beside their normal food, not mixed through it. Let them investigate it without pressure.

Raw feeding doesn’t have to be a battle. Sometimes it just needs to be boring, consistent and slow enough that your cat doesn’t feel like you’ve ruined their entire life.

Most people don’t avoid raw feeding because they don’t care.

They avoid it because it feels confusing, scary, or like one wrong move will ruin everything.

And honestly? Fair.

There is a lot of terrible advice out there. Some of it is overly complicated. Some of it is wildly oversimplified. Some of it is fear-based. Some of it is just someone on the internet confidently yelling “80/10/10” like that somehow answers everything.

Raw feeding does not need to be hard, but it does need to be balanced.

Cats need appropriate animal protein, proper balance, moisture, patience, and someone willing to go at their pace.

Your cats deserve better nutrition, and you deserve to make decisions without being scared into a corner.

Start with questions. Start with curiosity. Start where your cat is.

That’s what we’re here for.

Not to shove raw feeding down your throat. Not to tell you every cat must transition in three days. Not to pretend every raw diet is magically perfect just because it’s raw.

Now this is getting ridiculous.

At this point I’m starting to think the mug is living a more exciting life than the rest of us.

Is it ageing, or are they uncomfortable?

Older cats don’t always show discomfort in obvious ways.

They’re not always limping, crying, or making a big dramatic announcement that something hurts. Sometimes it’s more subtle and harder to see.

They may start choosing the lower sleeping spot instead of the top of the cat tree.. pause before jumping.. groom a little less,.. move a little more carefully, or seem less confident in their body than they used to.

And it’s easy to look at that and think, “well, they’re getting older.” .. but old isn’t a diagnosis.

As cats age, their joints, muscles, hips, back and overall comfort can need more support. And the earlier we notice those little changes, the better chance we have of helping them stay comfortable.

Extra support for joints, mobility and comfort as cats get older, slower, stiffer, or start losing a bit of confidence in their bodies.

Because ageing isn’t a disease... but discomfort shouldn’t be ignored just because a cat is older.

Just a heads up before everyone disappears into the weekend...

Monday is WA Day, which means Raw Meow will be closed for the public holiday.

Any orders placed over the weekend or on Monday will be packed from Tuesday when we're back.

In the meantime, Oliver will be spending the day doing absolutely nothing while continuing to insist he's the hardest working employee here.

I found this little Raw Meow relic and honestly, I don’t know whether to be embarrassed or proud.

Is it a cinematic masterpiece? No.

Does it still make the point? Absolutely.

Cats are not designed to live on dry little biscuits and hope. They need meat, moisture, and a properly balanced diet.
