Last week, our team from Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital once again had the privilege of joining the RSPCA NSW Outreach team for a Healthy Pet Day in Cessnock — and during National Volunteer Week, it was a timely reminder of just how much can be achieved when communities come together.
The day was a wonderful example of how local partnerships can help reduce barriers to veterinary care, support positive pet ownership, and keep much-loved pets healthy and with the people who love them most.
Together with local council, community organisations, volunteers and supporters, the outreach team was able to provide practical, prevention-focused veterinary care for pet owners who may otherwise struggle to access regular veterinary services.
Across the day, 51 animals were seen, including 33 dogs and 18 cats, supporting 32 animal guardians within the local community. In addition, 48kg of pet food and animal care resources were distributed to help ease immediate cost-of-living pressures for families caring for pets.
Events like these highlight the importance of collaboration and community-based support. Not only are immediate health concerns addressed, but pathways for ongoing care and support are strengthened — improving animal welfare outcomes while helping keep pets safe, healthy, and at home where they belong.
As we reflect on National Volunteer Week, and sincerely thank our incredible Orchard Hills Vet team members who generously volunteer their time, skills and compassion to support both our local and wider communities.
