A vet clinic is a pretty hectic place really – fully booked with vaccines, sore ears, itchy pets, a whole day of routine surgeries on the schedule, then BAM, 9.01am and the call comes in for a heifer struggling to calve! This isn’t unusual, and if it isn’t a calving, it’s a dog hit by a car, or a snake bite or tick paralysis.
In vet clinics, we must always expect the unexpected! In this case, we reshuffled the schedule, Dr Hannah took on all of the consults, some surgeries were delayed by a few hours – and Dr Sin went out to help the mum-in-need.
The calf was quite large and coming backwards, but with some good drugs and a bit of skill, Dr Sin delivered a live calf. Mum and bub (and the farmer) were very pleased with this result!
So, while we always do our very best to stick to our schedule, we always prioritise emergencies. We do our best to communicate this if we have to shuffle our schedule, and we appreciate your understanding and patience, one day it might be your pet in the emergency we are prioritising!
