🔥 Heatwaves & fires are here, let’s keep our community and animals safe! 🔥
Extreme heat and bushfires aren’t just stressful, they’re dangerous. Whether you have pets, horses, or farm animals, planning ahead can save lives.
Here’s what you need to do:
💧 Keep fresh water available at all times
🌳 Provide shade & airflow
⏰ Exercise animals early morning or late evening
🚗 Know your evacuation routes & have a plan
🎒 Pack halters, leads, crates, meds, and ID
⚠️ Watch for heat stress: panting, drooling, lethargy, confusion
Identification matters: microchip your animals or attach your contact details to their mane/hoof. Practice loading and moving them around your property so everyone knows where to go in an emergency.
Evacuation tips: move early, never wait for the fire. Safer options can include open paddocks, sand areas away from buildings, dams for cooling, or approved showgrounds/saleyards. Always check with your local council first.
❤️ Kindness goes a long way: check in on friends, family, neighbours, offer help, and look out for animals in need.
