The wonderful Martin Clunes spreading some good news regarding traffic slowing down for horses in England. Let’s hope the same will one day become general behaviour in Australia too.

🐎 π–πžπ₯𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐑𝐞 β€œπ˜πžπšπ« 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐑𝐞 π‡π¨π«π¬πžβ€

I feel like this one deserves a repost as today is officially the start of the Chinese Lunar New Year. This means we can legitimately begin to celebrate the β€˜Year of the Fire Horse’!

So while many of us posted on the new year according to the Gregorian calendar, which is January 1, the Lunar New Year, associated with the Chinese zodiac, follows the second new moon after the winter solstice. Which means this year it officially begins on February 17, 2026.

The 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac closely follows the orbit of Jupiter, which takes just under twelve years to complete a full revolution around the sun. Ancient Chinese astronomers tracked this β€œYear Star” to mark long stretches of time, creating a calendar system that was predictable, observable, and practical. Associating each year with an animal made this system accessible across social classes and literacy levels - bringing astronomy, agriculture, and storytelling into everyday life.

The animals of the zodiac were chosen because of their roles in human society. Later tradition describes a race called by the Jade Emperor that determined which animals were included and their order. The animal are used in the Chinese zodiac in this order with the following traits associated with them:

πŸ€ π‘πšπ - Survival and adaptability. Thrived alongside human settlements, symbolizing intelligence and the ability to navigate scarcity and change.
πŸ‚ 𝐎𝐱 - Labor and reliability. Powered agriculture, representing endurance, consistency, and collective stability.
πŸ… π“π’π πžπ« - Power and protection. A symbol of courage, authority, and defense.
πŸ‡ π‘πšπ›π›π’π - Caution and sensitivity. Represented awareness, timing, and restraint.
πŸ‰ πƒπ«πšπ π¨π§ - Authority and natural forces. In Chinese tradition, symbolized balance, rain, and imperial power.
🐍 π’π§πšπ€πž - Strategy and wisdom. Associated with patience, observation, and deliberate action.
🐎 π‡π¨π«π¬πž - Momentum, independence, and the freedom to pursue purposeful work. Enabled trade, warfare, communication, and expansion.
🐐 π†π¨πšπ (π’π‘πžπžπ©) - Harmony and cooperation. Linked to social balance and shared responsibility.
πŸ’ 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐀𝐞𝐲 - Innovation and problem-solving. Represented adaptability in complex systems.
πŸ“ π‘π¨π¨π¬ππžπ« - Order and vigilance. A marker of routine, responsibility, and timekeeping.
πŸ• 𝐃𝐨𝐠 - Loyalty and protection. Reflected trust, companionship, and social bonds.
πŸ– 𝐏𝐒𝐠 - Sustenance and completion. Symbolized nourishment, abundance, and the close of a cycle.

In addition to the cycle of animals, there is also a corresponding system of elements: metal, water, wood, fire, and earth.. In the Chinese zodiac, each element lasts for two consecutive years and can be identified by the final digit of the year.

πŸͺ¨ 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚π₯: years ending in 0 and 1
Represents structure, discipline, and refinement. Metal years tend to emphasize focus, resilience, boundaries, and determination.

πŸ’§ π–πšππžπ«: years ending in 2 and 3
Reflects rest, introspection, and adaptability. Water years emphasize intuition, emotional depth, wisdom, and strategic movement rather than force.

πŸͺΎ 𝐖𝐨𝐨𝐝: years ending in 4 and 5
Marks growth and beginnings. Wood years are linked to creativity, expansion, flexibility, and forward momentum - often times of new ideas and development.

πŸ”₯ π…π’π«πž: years ending in 6 and 7
Symbolizes peak energy and transformation. Fire years are associated with passion, visibility, bold action, and rapid change.

🌎 π„πšπ«ππ‘: years ending in 8 and 9
Acts as a stabilizing phase between elements, associated with grounding, balance, and transition. In the zodiac, Earth years emphasize practicality, reliability, and steady progress.

This cycle of elements intersects with the 12 zodiac signs, creating specific element–animal combinations in a 60-year cycle.

Traditionally, the Year of the Horse is associated with action, direction, and forward motion. Combined with fire, this year really emphasizes initiative and transformation. This theme makes it a perfect moment to ask yourself: where do you want momentum in your life? That might mean pursuing a professional goal, returning to work that feels meaningful, or finally moving toward something you are passionate about. Whatever that looks like for you, I hope 2026 brings purposeful movement and progress worth carrying forward!

However, beyond shaping the themes of the year ahead, each animal–element combination is also believed to reflect the traits of those born that year.

How has your year been going so far and what goals do you have for the year of the fire horse?

Stunning Arab gelding, 15hh Bay with white blaze $2,700 (Registered) "Distinctive Juiel" Crabbit blood lines Sire G*I El JULLYEN (US) dam WAR-EL KARA-MIA (AU),

Easy keeper, lovely natured, zero injuries, never been unwell, never done endurance, has done trail riding only plus natural horsemanship training and orienteering days with riding club SCATER.

Only selling due to not enough time to ride him regularly anymore which is what suits him best. He would benefit from a confident rider. He is used to fairly long rides (10klms+), at least 2 -3 times weekly, and prefers riding with one other horse, as in a group he gets a bit anxious about getting bunched up. He is not a kicker or biter, but worries that other horses might be, so I used to keep a ribbon on his tail to keep other riders from crowding him.

He steps out well without being too forward.

He's really good in a herd or on his own, and he loves miniature ponies, he's middle of the pecking order. He's great on fences, and has no vices.

He floats well and self loads. He is great for the farrier and has been ridden shod and bare foot plus with Scoot boots.
He has also been ridden with and without a bit. I like to ride him ba****ck in the arena.
He is easy to catch, worm and do anything with.
He has not been jumped, but is happy to jump a small log or small jump etc.
He has had lots of natural horsemanship training (Downunder Horsemanship) and backs up nicely to the wiggle of a rope etc. He can side pass, flex and one rein stop.

His ideal rider would be a kind, gentle, experienced rider, with some training ability to enjoy all his natural horsemanship talents. The more he is ridden the better he gets. He likes forest best and will drink out of puddles, and dams, but won't go in one. He has crossed creeks, but is better led as he tries to jump.
He ties up really well, and can spend an hour at a time tied to the float with his hay bag quite happily at training days.

He is currently in paddock condition, although he always looks magnificent, and is a show quality horse, having won a chamionship as a stallion in his younger years.

He is up to date with all vaccinations, Hendra, 2 in 1 and has just had a dental, and has great teeth. He has perfectly straight legs and great conformation. He has never had any health issues at all since I have owned him since age 6. He is now 18yrs. He was gelding at age 6, and has sired foals, but he is totally safe paddocked with mares, and does not try to mount them and is not dominant to other geldings at all.

Currently fed 1 sccop chaff, 1/2 scoop copra with minerls, salt etc daily. He gets hay in winter as well, plus cracked lupins if he is in work.

I do have a leather (Oz West) trail riding saddle that was made for him if you are interested.
I have hundreds of photos and videos of him, having owned him for a long time.

I would like $2,700 for him but may be negotiable to the right home. You are welcome to test ride him in the arena first to see if he is what you are looking for, and once you are sure I can float him to his new home. I would like to keep in contact to make sure he is happy with his new owner, so I would prefer to sell him in south Qld.

Give me a call 0402 806 939 or email [email protected] and I can send a drop box link for videos of him.
