Sneak peek at some of today’s goodies 👀
Our members are loving the new Bonsoy 😋. I tried the Cranberry Pomegranate last week (so good!) and this week I ordered the Lemon Ginger 🍋 🫚.
Also, how stunning is this bunch of rainbow chard? And the Shimeji mushrooms… too cute! 🌈🍄

It's been a long time since I've done a price comparison on my personal order.

Here's my order for fruit and veg for this week, comparing prices for the same items and quantities at Woolworths and Coles online. As I've consistently found in the past, my Box Divvy order is around 30% cheaper overall. Some items are similar in price, and some are outrageously cheaper with Box Divvy. But overall, I'm well in front on cheaper prices.

And then there are the other multiple benefits, including:
- Knowing our produce is sourced from local farmers, at fair prices for all, and lower food miles
- minimal new packaging, and lots of the boxes are re-used, helping us leave a smaller environmental footprint
- Getting a large proportion of produce that is spray-free, minimising my family's exposure to chemicals in fertilisers and pesticides
- “Just in time” supply - fruit and veg are sourced fresh from the growers, jus in time for delivery. That makes my order fresher, tastier and longer-lasting!
- Price transparency - it's great to be able to see what our suppliers are being paid when I log in and place my order
- Generous quantities in our orders - even with cheaper prices, we are often blessed with extras in our hub's order that get shared amongst the members
- Being part of a hub means engaging in meaningful ways with like-minded people in my local community. It's so much more than just food shopping!

Want to eat more veggies??🥦 Adding more veggies to your day doesn’t have to be boring or complicated. Here are some simple, delicious ways to boost your veg intake:

🥗 Have a salad a day! Think beyond lettuce & tomato. Add grains, legumes, seeds, sprouts & a tasty avo dressing to make it satisfying.

🥕 Snack on veg! Keep cut-up carrot sticks, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes or capsicum in the fridge for easy grab-and-go snacks. Pair with hummus or a bean dip.

🌱 Try Meat-Free Monday! Build your meal around veggies, legumes, mushroom steaks, marinated tofu or tempeh once a week.

🍆 Make veggies the hero / flip your plate! Instead of treating veg as a side, let them take centre stage. A roasted cauliflower, or stuffed pumpkin/capsicum can be the main act.

🌯 Get creative with swaps! Try lettuce wraps instead of bread, use broccoli rice instead of regular rice, or spiralised zucchini as a pasta alternative. These swaps are fun & nutrient-dense.

Eating more veg is one of the simplest ways to keep yourself & your family healthy & prevent diet-related & chronic disease. 💛

In last week’s newsletter, there were some eye-opening stats from recent UK research: only 31% of adults are eating the recommended 5 serves of fruit & veg per day.

The picture’s not much better here in Australia, while 44% of us manage 2 serves of fruit, just 6.5% hit the target for vegetables. And in NSW, it’s even lower: 38% for fruit and only 4.6% for veg! 😳

Being part of Box Divvy makes it so much easier to meet your daily fruit and veg goals, with fresh, seasonal produce that’s both accessible and affordable.

Need some extra inspiration? Check out the next post for simple tips to get more veggies into your day! 🥦🍅

A big box of leafy greens from yesterday’s divvy. 💚 🥬

I love the look of Tuscan kale, it’s so serious looking ☺️, you just know it means business.

It’s been grown in Tuscany as far back as the 18th century & is a key ingredient in the traditional Tuscan soup, Ribollita, made with day old bread, beans & veg. 🇮🇹

It’s less bitter than curly kale & the leaves are more tender. It thrives in winter & the cold weather actually causes the plant to convert some of its starches into sugars which helps protect it from freezing (ah the intelligence of nature 🌳).

And it does mean business nutritionally speaking, rich in vitamin A, C & K & the antioxidants lutein (eye health) & kaempferol (anti-inflammatory). It’s also lower in oxalates than spinach so a great source of plant-based calcium.

It’s a terrible prospect. If local farmers quit, we all lose. Thanks for this post Box Divvy Farmborough Heights - Ashley 💛

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝘁 — 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗼𝘅 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝘃𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺

THAT sentence alone fills me with sadness and dread! 👆🏼

BUT, there is good news - read on!

😢 Dairy farmers are not the only ones doing it tough. Did you know that across Australia, 34% of vegetable farmers are considering leaving the industry within the next year?

💲 Rising costs, shrinking returns, and pressure from supermarkets are forcing many small farmers to hang up their boots. When growers quit, fresh local food becomes harder to find, prices go up, and communities lose vital connections to where their food comes from.

💦 Adding to the challenge, climate change is hitting local growers hard. Unpredictable weather—droughts, floods, and heatwaves—makes farming riskier and less predictable. Crops can fail or produce less, while pests and diseases thrive in warmer conditions. These pressures increase costs and stress, sometimes forcing farmers to scale back or leave farming altogether.

🍅 For most communities, this means fewer fresh, local foods and rising prices.

👍🏼 Here’s the good news: as part of the Box Divvy community, you’re helping change that story.

The Box Divvy community are supporting these farmers by directly purchasing their products, build resilience by encouraging more sustainable farming and providing a steady income. Then farmers have a chance at adapting to climate changes and growing the food we all rely on.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗪𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀

At Box Divvy, we don’t just deliver food — we build genuine partnerships with the farmers who grow your produce. Here’s how we support them:

💛 Fair pay & honest prices: We pay prices that reflect the true cost of growing fresh, seasonal food, not the rock-bottom rates supermarkets often impose. This helps farmers cover their costs and keep farming sustainably.
💛 Collaborative seasonal planning: We work closely with growers throughout the year to plan crops based on what our community wants to eat. This reduces waste and means you get fresher, more delicious produce.
💛 Sustainability & care: We support farmers committed to environmentally friendly practices that protect soil, water, and pollinators — because healthy farms make healthier food.
💛 Open communication: We stay connected with farmers, sharing challenges like weather or pests and working together to find solutions that keep your box full and farms thriving.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂

✔️ You might wonder if ethical eating fits your budget. The truth is, when you shop seasonally, support local growers, and reduce waste, you often save money compared to buying processed or imported food.
Plus, you’re investing in a food system that values people, planet, and community.

✔️ Every Box Divvy order sends a powerful message to growers: “We see you, we value you, and we want you to keep growing.”

✔️ So next time you unpack your Box Divvy fresh fruit and veg, remember: it’s more than just food. It’s a lifeline for farmers, a boost for communities, and a way to eat ethically without breaking the bank.

What’s in Our Pantry!

Here’s a little snapshot of some of the goodies our hub has been enjoying lately, from both last week & this week’s deliveries!

I was curious what everyone’s been snacking on…I don’t have a sweet tooth, but I do have a massive savoury one! 😅

Lately, I’ve been loving the miso ramen noodles, perfect for winter when you just want a warm, brothy bowl of comfort.

I also tried the Orgran quinoa crispbreads (yes, they are crispy!), & super light. I loaded them with hummus, fresh tomato, & a sprinkle of h**p seeds.

This week I’m trying the new veggie snacks: kale & beetroot chips, & edamame & seaweed snacks for that hit of umami.

There’s a bit of a popcorn trend happening too, lots of us are popping our own corn 🍿 & dried fruit like prunes, dates & figs are popular for a sweet treat.

Have you read or watched the devastations of Mid North Coast floods and wondered how could you help too?

The floods over the past few weeks have destroyed nearly 800 homes (Lismore lost 1500) and damaged 5000 (compared with 10000 in Lismore). The Mid Coast floods however impacted a much bigger area, from the Central Coast all the way to the Dorrigo plateau.

One such area was the Mt George/Gloucester region through which the Manning River spilt its flood waters. As we wrote in last week’s newsletter, Brad from Gloucester Grass-fed Meats saw the writing on the wall and managed to get his cattle to higher ground in time. To help with the recovery, we have so far donated $5,000 from the Farmers Climate Resilience Fund. We are also working with Norco to help some of their dairy farmers around Taree and Kempsey with recovery efforts. More details to follow.

We have already sent a load of fresh produce to Wingham (where the local Coles was flood-damaged and is yet to re-open). We have made contact with Lifeline and a Baptist church in Wingham to set up a regular supply line. We have also contacted Kempsey council and the Macleay Valley Food Bowl who represents a number of growers – including Green Leaf farm in Clybucca, who have previously supplied us with tomatoes and capsicums – and have offered assistance.

To help us deliver more flood assistance, members and Hubsters can donate. We have set up an additional donation option in Marketplace, so donations are open for:

🌏 The existing Farmers Climate Resilience Fund: donations - matched dollar-for-dollar by Box Divvy – are used to support farmers across the Mid Coast. Set up after Lismore, this fund contains $31,095 (half from Hubsters and members, half from Box Divvy, including $881 in accrued interest, excluding the $5,000 already donated)

💦 The new Flood Recovery Fund: also matched dollar-for-dollar by Box Divvy, donations are used mainly for food delivery to flood victims on the Mid Coast. The current balance is nil.
