WELCOME to the team, ALISHA 🐾

Joining our VetCentre family in April, 2026, Alisha has stepped into a role as a trainee nurse and customer service team member.

Alisha has a passion for helping animals, and is invested in learning how to provide the best care for every patient.

Tasmanian Devils are Alishas favourite animal, and she was fortunate to work alongside them for three years.

Alisha loves spending time with her family, both human and animal, and enjoys the company of her many fish and rabbits, and cats Miffy, Beetle and Nulla.

Welcome Alisha!

Today our teams came together to connect, share some delicious brownies, and celebrate the success of PetSafety Net in providing subsidised veterinary care to families experiencing financial hardship across Tasmania.

Since launching the program, we’ve helped more than 100 pets stay with the families who love them, contributing over $96,168 towards their treatment and care.

We’re incredibly proud of what our team has achieved, so today we took the opportunity to celebrate with brownies and cake—kindly provided by the Pet SafetyNet team.

If you or someone you know is experiencing financial hardship and has a pet needing urgent veterinary care, visit PetSafetynet.com.au to see if they may qualify for a free 24/7 veterinary telehealth consultation and subsidised in-clinic care through PetSafety Net.

New in clinic: IDEXX Cancer Dx for dogs

We’re excited to offer a new blood test that screens for canine lymphoma—one of the most common cancers in dogs.

✔️ Can be added to sick patient testing
✔️ Available as part of routine wellness bloodwork
✔️ Helps detect disease earlier, before obvious signs appear

Why it matters:
Cancer is often diagnosed late, when treatment options are more limited. Early detection gives us the best chance to investigate sooner, start treatment earlier, and improve quality of life.

Special for May:
Selected Best for Pet members dogs over the age of 7 may be invited to include this test in their annual wellness screen at no extra cost.

Lymphoma symptoms can be subtle (like lethargy or weight loss), so proactive screening can make a real difference.

📞 Chat to our team to see if this test is right for your dog.

Patient whose name is “3” presented to our New Norfolk clinic today through our Pet SafetyNet program with significant facial swelling, suspected to be the result of a kick from goats on the property.

📢 Please be vigilant! Parvo is still on the rise!

What is parvovirus?

Parvovirus is a severe gastrointestinal virus that can cause a multitude of symptoms in your dog including:

- Severe bloody foul-smelling diarrhoea

- Vomiting

- Extreme lethargy

- Loss of appetite

- Unwillingness to drink

- Fever

- Death, especially in unvaccinated puppies

Parvovirus is extremely contagious and can survive in the environment in soil for up to 7 years. It is mainly seen in puppies where it can reach up to 90% mortality if left untreated, but it can still affect older dogs well into adulthood. Dogs with parvovirus very quickly become dehydrated and experience massive electrolyte imbalances due to the profuse diarrhoea that they experience.

The good news is that prompt treatment with intravenous fluids and nutritional support makes the chances of recovery much higher. Additionally, vaccination of puppies with the full course of three injections at 6-8 weeks, 10-12 weeks and 16 weeks and routine boosters, the risk of contracting parvovirus is minimal.

If you have any concerns that your dog or puppy may be due for parvovirus vaccination please contact the team at Montrose or New Norfolk Vet Centre.
