🐎 We’re introducing two spelling options at Newbrook Estate
Following on from our recent post about how horses naturally change when they go out on spell, we wanted to share an update to how we offer our spelling agistment.
Over time, we’ve seen just how differently horses respond to time off. Some horses are only here for a short spell where maintaining muscle and topline is important, while others transition into a longer spell or retirement where a grass-based lifestyle suits them perfectly.
Because of this, we’ve decided to introduce two different spelling models, giving owners the option to decide what best suits their horse:
🌿 Grass-Only Spelling
For horses who do well living naturally on pasture. Ideal for longer spells, let-down periods, or retirement. This replicates our current spelling model where our perennial paddocks provide the abundance of grass feed for the herd.
Includes:
• Large paddock living in a herd environment
• Access to pasture and water
• Daily checks
• A low-stress, natural lifestyle with plenty of movement
🌾 Supported Spelling
For horses who benefit from additional nutrition to help maintain muscle and overall condition during their spell. Particularly suited to shorter spells, those wanting to maintain topline, horses with joint issues or horses with higher nutritional needs.
Includes:
• Everything in Grass-Only Spelling
• Daily hard feed provided by us (high-calorie, balanced diet)
• Rugging as required (no responsibility accepted for damage to rugs)
• Routine worming
• Farrier trims arranged and managed by us
Both spelling options exclude equine dentistry, veterinary, handling fees outside of farrier trims.
Both options still provide what we believe is most important — space to move, herd interaction, and a low-stress environment where horses can truly switch off and be horses.
If you’re unsure which option would suit your horse best, we’re always happy to chat and help guide you.
We will be reaching out to our current spellers owners about these changes and for renewed contracts requirements for insurance purposes so please keep your eye out for some communication in the next few days
