RIP Penstrumbly Blue Jean Baby ( imp UK ) 2007 to 11/4/26

With great sadness we had to say goodbye to BJ just before her 19 th birthday . She has left a legacy in her time in Australia , 8 foals many very successful inhand and under saddle , all by Gwynfaes Madoc ( imp UK ) She was a big moving generous natured mare , very maternal and we feel privileged to have owned her since she arrived from Wales , she will be much missed .

Cwmkaren Bronwen By Hendrewen Abs Express ( imp ) out of Cwmkaren Boneddiges . 2006- 2025 Sadly we lost Bron recently , We have owned her since a weanling , she was one of our foundation mares for Rowen Stud and she has left a wonderful legacy behind to remember her by . Nine foals to Gwynfaes Madoc (imp ) always black and successful in many ridden and harness disciplines . She leaves 3 daughters behind and 3 Granddaughters including various major in hand awards . She will be much missed .

Thankyou to awesome team Rowen for all their help and foal wrangling today at the Boardwalk Pools WPCS foal and Youngstock Show Nic , Helen , Zoe , Adriana , Paige and Dayna . Mum and my sister Veronica for sandwiches and moral support .

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and from a personal point can only hope it’s better than 2024 ! However on the good side we have 3 gorgeous foals , our first Rowen Harriet by Penybrenin Hughburt ( imp) out of Rowen Brioni .
Followed by Rowen Champagne Valley by Gwynfaes Madoc ( imp) out of Trevallion Champagne Moments (imp) who has been purchased by Adriana Della Franca congratulations and hope she does you proud down the track .
Lastly Rowen Manhattan also by Gwynfaes Madoc (imp) out of Seawynd Miss Montana , showy black c**t , he already loves to strut his stuff in the arena , might follow in his 2 FEI Uncles footsteps .
Currently hoping to get 5 foals on the ground for next year 🤞
Showing has been a little subdued this year due to my chemo and radiotherapy treatments but had some amazing help at the Allwelsh from Nic, Adriana , Emma and Zoe without them I would not have been there .
To end the year I have my first grand child - a filly- so maybe she will become part of team Rowen down the track !
Finally thankyou to all the people who put on the WPCS shows , you are appreciated as without your hard work and organisation there is no society .
Hope 25 is a good year for everyone

*** STEP AWAY FROM THE EQUEST (at this time of year) ***

A repeat post, but people STILL don’t understand!

Just a little reminder that you should absolutely NOT be using Equest or Equest Pramox during the Spring, Summer and early Autumn months. It should be reserved for the main purpose of Moxidectin; targeting the ENCYSTED stages of Redworm. Redworm encyst into the gut wall when it is COLD.

The emergence of these encysted redworm as the temperatures warm up in March/April, can result in fatal cyathostominosis. We only have TWO drugs that can treat encysted redworm, and there is already widespread resistance to one of them (Fenbendazole), and rapidly developing resistance to the second one - MOXIDECTIN. It’s imperative that you DO NOT USE EQUEST or EQUEST PRAMOX during the warm months, unless specifically directed to do so by your vet.

Lots of people correctly use worm egg counts during the spring and summer months, but some are then very dangerously worming with Equest if they have high egg counts. This is both a waste of Moxidectin, and a danger, due to helping increase the resistance to this drug.

DO NOT WASTE MOXIDECTIN WHEN IT’S WARM! The whole point of the drug is that it treats ENCYSTED redworm. The redworm burrow into the gut wall to keep warm; it’s as simple as that to understand! They need eradicating AFTER they have burrowed, so AFTER it gets cold, and BEFORE it warms up in the Spring!
