Flopsy gets a gold star for being the bravest bunny ever!
He came in to visit Dr Louise to have his Crown Jewels removed 🙊

Here he is pictured with Nurse Caitie who has a special interest in Exotics and so cared for him for the day. It included mandatory post surgery cuddles, topping up his rocket 🥬 and a selfie or two

Thank you to Flopsy’s family for trusting Greencross Chatswood with their special boy and allowing us to share his gorgeous face with you all

Meet sweet little Kiki 🦘

Kiki was found by a member of the public with a laceration to her ankle. Thankfully, our amazing wildlife carer Kristy brought this beautiful girl into Greencross Vets South Morang to get her the care she needed.

Dr Kayla carefully stitched up Kiki’s ankle, making it her first-ever kangaroo stitch-up! ✨ Nurse Kiara was also there to monitor the procedure and make sure she was well looked after❤️

Kiki will be heading to her wildlife carer’s home today where she’ll stay for a little while to heal and grow before she can eventually be released back into the wild.

We’re so grateful to everyone who helped this sweet girl and feel very lucky to be able to care for our amazing Australian wildlife! 🦘💚

Turns out the cone makes everything I say a lot louder which nobody told me about, so if you can hear me from down the street that’s why. Also, a really big thanks to everyone at Greencross Vets because they were so nice to me and I had a really good nap there, honestly top three naps of my life

Does your dog sleep all day? Some dogs are low energy and more prone to restful periods than others. However, it’s important to ask the question: What are my dog’s alternatives?

Canis Lupus Familiaris, or the domestic dog, shares both its name and genetics with the wolf (Canis Lupus). Although domestication has wrought some differences, their basic needs remain the same. Being an intelligent and social species, their primary needs are similar to ours. Companionship, mental stimulation, exercise, good nutrition and shelter from extreme elements are vitally important to a dog’s happiness.

Wolves roam miles a day and spend hours collaborating with their pack in strategic hunting activities. They defend their territories and engage in complex social behaviours such as establishing and maintaining packs, finding and keeping a mate and protecting, nurturing and teaching their young to survive. They live very busy lives.

The life of the domestic dog in Western society has undertaken a recent and rapid evolution. Up until the mid 1900’s most dogs were allowed to roam the neighbourhood, exploring, mating, socialising and returning home at the end of the day for a meal with their family.

While the many benefits of confinement to the home (safety being number one) are difficult to deny, any castle can become a prison when its inhabitants are denied access to enrichment, exercise and companionship.

The behavioural problems associated with an unbalanced life are represented frequently in excessive barking, digging, separation anxiety, aggression, obsessive compulsive disorders, depression, anxiety and inappropriate chewing among many more manifestations. Some dogs are their own worst enemies, however, and suffer in silence.

Fortunately, the pendulum is swinging back in recognition of the above as we see a rise in enrichment toys, dog sports, doggy day care centres and dog parks.

What are your dog’s alternatives? If you’re drawing a blank, perhaps it’s time to consider providing some.

We have, up for adoption to a responsible and loving indoor home, one grogeous 5 month old kitten and one stunning 18 month old cat.

Mumma cat, as she is affectionately known, has raised a litter of kittens who have all found wonderful homes. After all her hard work being a dedicated and tender-hearted mum to these babies, Mumma Cat is now looking for her own family who will treasure her for her playful and affectionate nature and provide her with all the love she deserves. Mumma Cat is best suited to a home with no other cats or dogs, though she is quite accepting of kittens.

Jet is a pure black kitten who, at just five months of age is full of fun, cuddles and sweetness. Jet would love to leave his previous life on the streets behind to become a cherished family member where he can reciprocate all his new family's love.

Both cats come desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. Their adoption fee is $195 each.

If you are interested in either of these fantastic felines, please don't hesitate to contact Greencross Narre Warren on 03 9709 8222 to arrange a meet and greet.

Introducing handsome Hamish!

Hamish is a 16week old Irish Wolfhound X who came into Greencross Narre Warren after his owner had noticed he was off his food.

He had also had a couple of vomits and just wasn't quite himself. On examination, Dr Kathy decided we should take some xrays of Hamish to see if there was a foreign body causing these issues.

The xrays showed that Hamish had indeed eaten something that he shouldn't... A unicorn tea strainer!

Hamish was taken straight in to surgery where Dr Kathy carefully removed the problem tea strainer!

During surgery, we also discovered that Hamish had a rather large worm bourden! This is a great reminder to make sure we are worming our puppies every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age and then monthly until 6 months of age.

Hamish recovered very quickly and was able to go home the same day and even graduate from Puppy School a week later!

Well done Hamish!
