Our troop member, Briony, is currently undertaking placement at Mundulla Primary School. She was in a unique position to bring a piece of history into the classroom following ANZAC Day.
The students asked fantastic questions and the horses enjoyed pats from the whole school.
Most importantly the Light Horse memory continues.
Lest We Forget.

ANZAC Day 2026 - NARACOORTE
Once again Naracoorte held a fantastic Dawn Service.
The riders and nurses enjoyed talking to everyone who came up for a chat and the horses welcomed the many pats.

Thank you to the Naracoorte Library knitters group who made purple poppies for the horses to wear on their bridles at the service in remembrance to the service of animals in war.

Each year on the 31st of October we remember the soldiers and horses of the 4th and 12th Light Horse regiments, who in 1917 partook in the last great calvary charge in history, the charge of Beersheba. This bold move took the Turkish forces by surprise and they were able to gallop under the firing range of their guns. The Light Horse were not equipped with swords, only their bayonets and Aussie courage, which they wielded as they stormed the Turkish forces to take Beersheba.

The successful charge was a turning point in WW1 in overturning the Ottomann empire, securing water sources for the forces and a key part in the steps it took to secure the Suez Canal ensuring it stayed open for allied forces.

Take a moment to read up on the charge, it truly is an incredible achievement of our Australian war heros, that needs to be always remembered.
