💛R U OK? Day 💛
We’re in this together 🐾🌾

Being a rural vet means we’re not just looking after animals – we’re part of the community. This year’s been tough on many of us, and it’s more important than ever to check in with your mates, family, and colleagues. 💛

This Thursday from 3.30pm onwards we’re hosting an R U OK Day afternoon knock-off drinks– a chance to come together, share a yarn, and support one another. Sometimes, a simple chat can make a world of difference.

Let’s look out for each other. You don’t have to be an expert – just a good mate. 💛

🐾✨ Meet Feta! ✨🐾

This gorgeous girl visited us last week for her Suprelorin implant, which helps stop heat cycles and keep her feeling her best. 🦦💉

👉 Did you know? If female ferrets are left in heat for too long, they can develop a serious condition called aplastic anaemia, which can be life-threatening. A simple implant like this is a safe and effective way to prevent that risk and protect their health.

Feta was such a star patient and enjoyed cuddles with our vet Imy afterwards. 💕 Doesn’t she (they 😉) look adorable? 😍

At Rural Vets, we’re here to care for all creatures – great, small, furry, and fabulous!

📚 Sharing Our Passion with the Next Generation 🐾

Last night, Amber, Imy and Montana headed to the Naracoorte High School Pathways to Pocket event to talk all things animal care and rural vet life.

A big thank you to Naracoorte High School for organising such a fantastic evening and giving us the chance to connect with students about careers in veterinary science, animal care, and all the unique joys (and muddy boots moments!) that come with working in rural practice.

We’re always proud to share our passion for animal health and to inspire the next generation of vets and vet nurses. 🌾🐶🐴🐑

🍼🐑 Wrapped Up in Care 🐑🍼
Nothing says “country vet life” like a newborn lamb snug as a bug in a blanket.

This little lamb is catching up on some much needed rest after a rough entry into the world. Mum was battling pregnancy toxemia (twin lamb disease), a condition we often see late in gestation.

Preg tox happens when heavily pregnant ewes can’t keep up with the energy demands of their growing lambs. It’s common in those carrying twins or triplets and can become serious fast.

Early signs in ewes include:
• Isolating from the mob
• Off feed
• Wobbly or dull
• Rapid breathing

Catching it early can save both ewe and lambs. Nutrition in late pregnancy is key — if you’re unsure, talk to one our vets about condition scoring and feed planning.

💙🎉 Happy Birthday, Bree! 🎉💙

Today we’re celebrating the kind, compassionate, and incredibly hardworking soul that is Dr. Bree.
Bree, you’re the real deal — tough when it counts, gentle when it matters, and somehow always have a smile on your face.

Happy Birthday from all of us — may your day be filled with dog cuddles, chook chat, ###x cans and absolutely no surprise after-hours emergencies. 💙

Just a tub full of Koolie pups to brighten up a gloomy day in Naracoorte. ☁️🐶

These little legends stopped by for their first round of vaccinations today and brought a whole lot of wriggles, licks, and muddy paws.
A wonderful way to end a busy week, rain or shine, we love days like this.

Winter can be tough on all of us — animals and humans alike — so don’t forget to check in on your mates, rug up, and take comfort in the little things… like muddy paws, cold noses, good company and much-needed showers from the sky. 💙
