Calm Crossings, owned and operated by Dr Nina Coulthard, is an in-home pet euthanasia service operating in the Adelaide Hills and surrounds. I believe that after our pets have provided us with comfort, unconditional love, joy and companionship, it is our last act of love to allow them to pass with dignity and grace. It is a great privilege to help you deliver a calm and peaceful passing. Doing thi

s in the familiar home environment, can allow for a more personal, less hurried experience for you and your beloved pet.

People often ask me how I manage with this work.

The answer is relatively simple. I love people and pets. Both deserve a dignified and loving exit when the time comes.

Being able to help families say goodbye to their loved one calmly at home, is nothing but an honour.

The words above are a representation of the feedback I receive weekly. I love that 'love' leads the way πŸ’šπŸΎπŸŒˆ

Today marks two years since I launched Calm Crossings. I could not have predicted how warmly Calm Crossings would be received by the community. I am eternally grateful πŸ’š

What an honour it has been to have been invited into your lives to help provide your beloved friends a dignified, relaxed farewell at home. During this time, many tears have been shed, but just as many memories relived and laughs have been had at the antics of years gone by 🐾🌈

Did I Do The Right Thing?

Making the decision to euthanase a pet is one of the hardest decisions we as pet owners face, often resulting in guilt and self doubt. These feelings are normal and understandable, however we must remember that this decision is one of great love and compassion in ending their suffering.

Here are some considerations to help you navigate these emotions:

πŸ’œ Acknowledge your feelings. These feelings are normal and a very important part of grieving.

🌈 Quality of Life: Most of us come to the decision to euthanase our pet after considering the pain and discomfort they are suffering. Remember that you made the decision with their best interests at heart.

πŸ’œ Celebrate their life. Tell stories about the mischief & fun you got up to together.

🌈 Create a memorial in their remembrance.

πŸ’œ Please remember that you are not alone. Reach out to friends, loved ones and pet grief professionals.

While the sentiment behind National Hug Your Dog Day is great, it's really important to remember that many dogs don't like to be hugged! In fact, a lot of dogs find it stressful as they can view it as restraint.

We would encourage you to show your affection in other ways that they'll appreciate - like a special treat, belly rub, or a play at the park πŸŒ³πŸ•πŸΎπŸ’š

Calm Crossings is more than happy to still be supporting AMRRIC - Animal Management in Rural & Remote Indigenous Communities 😁

is an op-paw-tunity to highlight the vital role desexing plays in keeping dogs and cats healthy.

Desexing contributes to safer, healthier communities. Some of the long-term benefits for communities and companion animals, include:

🐾 preventing unwanted litters of cats and dogs, reducing overpopulation
🐾 lowering the risk of some diseases and injuries
🐾 helping to make some animals calmer or less aggressive

This is why it is so important to increase access to desexing. AMRRIC partners with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to provide access to essential veterinary services.

Guided by local knowledge and priorities, our Vet Teams deliver desexing programs that are carried out with full consultation, and informed consent, enabling pet owners to keep their communities and their animals healthy and safe.

Desexing makes a difference!🐢🐱
