Meet beautiful Rhea!

Current location: SE QLD

Rhea is a 3-year-old, desexed girl who is up to date with vaccinations, worming, and all routine care.

She’s a smart, sweet, independent and sassy young lady looking for a home where she can be the only dog and truly thrive. She loves enrichment and mental stimulation. Puzzle toys and problem-solving are her favourites, especially when there’s a treat or toy involved.

Rhea enjoys her daily walks, is great on the lead, and knows a range of commands including sit, shake, wait, heel, and turn. She’s eager to learn and responds well to engagement.

Rhea is wonderful with children and has a loving, affectionate nature with her people. She can be left alone without issue, but like many clever dogs, she will take opportunities if they’re presented, so food, bins, and tempting items need to be kept out of reach.

Due to ongoing conflict with her littermate brother, Rhea must be rehomed as an only dog. This has been an incredibly difficult decision, but it is necessary for her safety, as her brother is much larger and the situation has escalated. Rhea’s compatibility with cats is unknown.

She would do best in a home that can provide structure, mental stimulation, and plenty of one-on-one attention. If you’re looking to be greeted by the best wiggle bum and have something to make you laugh every day, she’s your girl. Rhea has so much love to give and will make a loyal and rewarding companion in the right home.

Because people need to be reminded constantly 😞

Feeding Wild Birds.

This post is so important as it is a topic that comes up again and again!
Thanks to Minton Farm Animal Rescue Centre for the reminder!

Magpies should never under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be fed raw meat. NOT even as an occasional treat.

The face of human kindness?! Broken beak, broken leg, dead tongue.
This is what feeding mince does to chicks fed it by their parents. There is NO calcium in mince meat.
Please stop feeding mince!!
This bird had soft bones causing a broken leg and soft beak. The bottom beak was already broken off, the tongue had dried out and died. The top beak was soft and brittle and was half broken off. More of the beak broke off when covered by a towel. It could not feed or move around.

If you feel that you must feed wild magpies we recommend the formula below. Only feed a small amount per day so that the birds will rely on natural food sources that will provide ALL their dietary requirements.

Formula
1 can Pal puppy food
Wheat germ
Heinz High Protein baby cereal
Wombaroo insectivore mix (available through your vet, or pet shop)
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
Half a cup of grated hard cheese i.e. Old Bitey
1 tablespoon of calcium carbonate

Funny and… sadly true for many kibbles sold worldwide.

If a kibble says “Chicken Flavour”, or “With Chicken”, it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s much chicken at all (or other meat or fish).

Why?

Because meat and fish is a much more expensive inclusion than alternative ingredients like those shown in the picture.

So, instead of using optimal protein for your dog or cat, bargain basement alternatives are used - corn, CGM, wheat gluten, rice, peas, soybean meal, and so forth.

These are often combined with the “meat first” trick, where some kind of meat is listed first on the ingredients, then a set of ingredients like those pictured. You read it as “meat” and “other stuff”, but the reality is all that “other stuff” makes the meat a fraction of the formula.

This tricks you into believing your pet food is meaty, when most protein comes from plants/grains (not to mention a load of unnecessary carbs).

The result - cheap to manufacture pet food, which you’re willing to pay a premium for because you’ve been duped into believing it’s appropriate for your meat-loving pet.

***OWNER KEEPING***

Meet Barkley | 4 years📍 Greater Sydney Region, NSW

We’re looking for a special home for Barkley.
He is nervous around new people and loud noises, so a home in a quiet area would be ideal. Barkley can be stand-offish when he first meets people, so he needs a patient, experienced owner who can help him build confidence at his own pace. With love, support and time Barkley will become your loyal best friend.

Barkley is a handsome boxer with a big heart. He enjoys chasing his ball and hanging out with his people. He’s reluctant to get in the car, but the perfect passenger once inside… so with some further training, he will be able to join you on adventures.

A friendly female dog friend of similar size may be a possibility, but a meet and greet will be required to ensure compatibility. He is currently located 1 hour from central Sydney.

To set Barkley up for success, he needs a home without cats or small animals.
Older children only for Barkley - he needs a calm, quiet home to help him gain confidence.
Barkley is house-trained and sleeps inside. During the day he is happy to play outside, but he may do some gardening if he gets bored!

Barkley’s current home is a bit too busy for him. He would love to live in a quieter area with a boxer-knowledgeable person, couple or family with teenagers.

If you think your home could be the right fit for Barkley, please apply below:

Daily walks are one of the most powerful ways to support your dog’s physical and emotional health. But they’re not without risk; one of the most overlooked and easily avoidable hazards I’ve seen in clinical practice is the use of retractable leashes. While they may seem convenient, offering dogs more freedom to explore, they can create a dangerous illusion of control. In reality, extending your dog 10–15 feet away reduces your ability to respond quickly when something unexpected happens, whether it’s a passing car, another dog, or a sudden noise.
Over the years, I’ve treated far too many injuries tied directly to retractable leashes; everything from neck strain and spinal stress in dogs to serious rope burns, trips, and falls (for dogs and people). These devices change the way dogs learn to walk, too. Instead of reinforcing calm, connected movement, they often reward pulling by giving dogs more distance when they forge ahead.
A sturdy, fixed-length leash (about 4–6 feet) paired with a well-fitted harness gives you consistent communication and control while still allowing your dog to enjoy the walk and all the sniffs that go with it. It’s one small change you can make that can dramatically reduce risk and help create calmer, more enjoyable walks for both you and your dog. Learn the leash types I recommend for maximum safety for you and your pup in my latest blog. Link in comments🐾.

💔 Two hearts, one bond…💔

Not long ago, Audrey’s story touched so many people and reminded us of what can happen when the right words reach the right hearts. Today, we’re hoping you’ll pause for Hank and Moo — a bonded brother and sister who are quietly waiting for their chance.

Hank and Moo are six years old and have spent their lives side by side. They’re not demanding, destructive, or chaotic. They’re the kind of dogs who fit into a home and make it feel warmer just by being there. They know routines. They know couches. They know how to settle, how to wait patiently, and how to love in their own gentle ways.

Hank is a soulful boy with a personality all his own. He adores pats and will happily let you know when it’s his turn for affection. He enjoys his walks, loves hopping in the car, and takes great joy in mealtimes and treats. At home, he’s calm and content, happy to snooze on the couch or enjoy some space when he needs it. He’s beautifully independent, copes well with a full workday alone, and is fully house trained. Hank isn’t noisy or needy — just quietly special.

Moo is affection wrapped in sass. She loves nothing more than curling up on the couch for cuddles and has a way of making you feel like her whole world once she trusts you. Dinner time brings zoomies, treats bring joy, and walks are always welcome. She’s generally very quiet, travels well, and settles easily at home. Moo can be a little reserved when meeting new people, but it doesn’t take long for her warm, loving nature to shine through. Like Hank, she’s house trained and comfortable being left during the day.

Together, they are easy, settled, and deeply connected. They’re good with other dogs, enjoy their sleep, and aren’t interested in chaos — just companionship, comfort, and each other.

Bonded pairs like Hank and Moo are so often overlooked. Two dogs feel like “too much” on paper, yet in reality, they offer something incredibly special: built-in companionship, emotional security, and dogs who are already content simply being together.

They don’t need saving from bad behaviour.
They don’t need fixing.
They just need someone to say, “Yes… you can come home.”

📍 Located in SE QLD
If you’ve been waiting for a sign — this might be it. Please share, comment, and help Hank and Moo find the home they deserve 🐾💛
