✨ Get to Know Molly!

Originally from Hamilton 🏡, Molly has had a love for animals from a very young age. Growing up on a beef and sheep farm, she was surrounded by animals every day, and it's no surprise she found her way into the veterinary industry 💚🐮🐑

Molly has been part of the Ovens & Kiewa Vets family for almost a year. While she spent much of that time completing her placement with us, her dedication, positive attitude, and strong work ethic quickly stood out. Through her hard work and commitment, she has truly earned her place as a valued member of our team 💚✨

You'll often see Molly helping care for our patients both in hospital and behind the scenes. She has a gentle, compassionate nature and is always eager to learn, ensuring every patient receives plenty of love, comfort, and exceptional care 🐶🐱🩺

Molly is passionate about developing her nursing skills and is always looking for opportunities to learn and grow. She demonstrates an exceptional attention to detail and regularly asks thoughtful questions to gain a deeper understanding, ensuring she learns not just the "how," but also the "why" behind veterinary nursing. Her curiosity, commitment to learning, and desire to provide the highest standard of patient care make her an invaluable member of our team. Whether she's caring for patients, assisting our veterinarians, or supporting clients, she approaches every task with kindness, enthusiasm, and professionalism. 💚

🏡 At home, Molly's love of animals continues! She has two horses and a Kelpie, who keep her busy outside of work. Growing up on the farm gave her a deep appreciation for caring for animals of all shapes and sizes, and that passion shines through every day at the clinic 🐴🐕🌾

We're incredibly proud of everything Molly has achieved in such a short time and are so lucky to have her as part of the Ovens & Kiewa Vets team. We can't wait to watch her continue to grow into an amazing veterinary nurse! 💚

🚨 Bird Flu Advisory 🚨
As some of you may be aware, bird flu has recently been detected in Australia. While there are currently no confirmed cases in Victoria, the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) have advised veterinary clinics to implement precautionary measures and help educate the public.
We ask everyone to take extra care when handling wildlife, particularly birds.
If you find a sick or injured bird:
Do not touch or handle the bird unless advised to do so.
Please contact our clinic before bringing any bird in so we can ask a few screening questions and determine the safest course of action.
If the bird is safe to identify from a distance, please note the species and any signs of illness or injury.
These precautions help protect our staff, clients, pets, and local wildlife. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

💊 Pharmacy Friday 🐄🩺

Meet this gorgeous little calf! 💚
He belongs to one of our veterinary nurses and our Veterinarian was out seeing his other little calf friend who had septic arthritis (joint ill). This little guy pictured was just out checking out what we were up to.

The other calf had septic arthritis. Which is a painful bacterial infection of the joint, most commonly seen in young calves. The bacteria often enter through the navel shortly after birth and travel through the bloodstream, causing infection and inflammation within the joints.

🚨 Signs to watch for:
🐮 Swollen, hot, or painful joints
🐮 Lameness or reluctance to stand
🐮 Reduced milk intake
🐮 Fever or lethargy

💡 Pharmacy Friday Tip: Early treatment is essential! Prompt veterinary care gives calves the best chance of recovery and can help prevent permanent joint damage.

Prevention starts at birth:
✔️ Ensure calves receive plenty of good-quality colostrum.
✔️ Dip navels soon after birth.
✔️ Maintain clean, dry calving areas.
✔️ Keep a close eye on newborn calves during their first few weeks of life.

With over 15 years in the veterinary industry, Zea brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership to the Ovens & Kiewa Vets team 💚

Although Zea is one of the newer members of our team, she has fit in effortlessly, and it already feels like she’s been part of the Ovens & Kiewa Vets family for years. Her friendly nature, positive attitude, and willingness to support those around her have made her a valued member of our team from day one.

As our Practice Manager, Zea plays an important role in keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Working across both of our clinics — Ovens & Kiewa Vets in Myrtleford and our sister clinic, Dr Paws in Wangaratta — Zea helps support our teams, manage the day-to-day operations, and ensure both clinics continue to provide the highest standard of care for our patients and clients. 💚

While much of her role involves managing the administrative side of the clinics, Zea is always happy to lend a helping hand wherever she’s needed. Whether it’s supporting the nursing team, assisting with patients, or stepping in to help solve a problem, she’s always ready to jump in.

Zea has a fantastic eye for detail and is always looking for ways to support our teams and improve the experience for both our clients and their pets. Her calm, approachable nature and willingness to help make her an invaluable part of the Ovens & Kiewa Vets family. 🩺💚

🏡 Outside of the clinic, Zea enjoys exploring our beautiful region with her Staghound. At home, she’s surrounded by animals, including four cats and a flock of chickens, so it’s safe to say her love for animals doesn’t stop when she leaves work! 🐕🐈🐔

When she’s not caring for the clinics or her own furry and feathered friends, you’ll find Zea gardening, baking delicious treats, or getting creative with pottery. 🌿🍰🏺
