Had a pleasant trip to Bundanoon yesterday to collect a horse that had tested its owners for hours the week before in not wanting to load. Obviously I would always say get a professional but it saves the animal a lot of stress and owners time and money if the animal learns to load the right , calm and safe way. Thank you Helga for our great chat about training methods.

Nice to have a previous traveller who went to the northern beaches some time ago come back to Burra to a new home. A pleasant trip for driver and the lovely mare and I’m sure she will be happy in her new lodgings.

A plea to new horse buyers :
In the last couple of months I have been asked to collect horses for their new owners . In a couple of cases the horses were a combination of unsound; unmanageable and/or frankly downright dangerous and their new owners could have suffered serious injury .
Some buying guidelines:
*Always get a vet check ;
*always fact check what you are being told about your purchase ;
*Don’t take anyone’s word the horse is safe to ride - ask the seller to ride it first;
*always ask for a trial at your place over a few days or weeks - one prebooked ride does not necessarily mean you are seeeing the horse in his regular mental or physical state; a genuine seller should not object to this
*Always check ownership;
*If you are not particularly knowledgeable about horses, take someone with you who is.
Remember the old rule that if something seems too good to be true it probably is .
There are lots of genuine sellers with genuine horses in the market but not everyone is . Buyer beware

Stud season is upon us with the first foals of the season on the ground including at our place and mares going off to stud for early covers. Already done a couple of trips to studs and a couple more this week. Its always a great time to be visiting studs to see the new foals.

Managed to get two ponies from across the Victorian border just in time a few weeks ago - and given both were unhandled 4 year olds they have come on a treat

Another happy customer today - a beautiful retired thoroughbred gentleman who clearly has had some stressful transport experiences in the past, but not today . He had a pleasant trip across town and a relieved owner at the destination.
