With Summer right around the corner means our little snake friends come out to play ☀️🐍

Here’s a few things that you should keep in mind!

Call your local vet and if there is no answer head straight to their clinic or seek an alternative vet if possible. Do not wait for a return phone call, when dealing with a snake bite several minutes can make all the difference!

Please do not try to catch the snake or bring it with you! Individual species of snake often vary in colour and can be all but impossible to identify other than by experienced professionals.

The signs of a snake bite by a tiger snake or dugite are varied. They may show some or all of the following signs:

* Sudden weakness or loss of balance
followed by collapse.
* Shaking or twitching of the muscles.
* Vomiting.
* Frothing at the mouth
* Glassy/glazed eyes
* Dilated pupils not responsive to light.
* Blood in the urine.
* Loss of bowel control
* Difficulty in breathing
* In the later stages paralysis may occur.
* Your dog may also show signs of false recovery

Veterinary treatment is a must for snake bites so if you think your pets have been bitten please don’t leave it and bring them to a vet immediately to be checked over.
