Windamere Horse Haven

Windamere Horse Haven Equine Sanctuary for Neglected, Abandoned & Abused Horses. WINDAMERE HORSE HAVEN Association Inc is a horse rescue charity which was established in 2013.

Its aim is to help save abused, neglected and abandoned horses and to try and give them a second chance at life through rehabilitation and re-education in a caring environment, with a view to rehoming to a forever home. As part of their rehabilitation and care, Windamere horses are provided with individualised supplementary feeding, and farrier, dental and routine vet care and also equine massage/

bodywork as needed. Once we have helped a horse recover to full health and it has undergone a retraining program with our horse trainer, we will try and find a suitable adoptive home. We attempt to match horse and prospective owners and offer ongoing support. Windamere Horse Haven is mainly funded by donations or ongoing sponsorship which can be for as little as $10 per week. Individual donations/sponsorship as well as those from businesses are very much appreciated. Even having a donation box on a sales counter can help fund the horses in our care. Sponsors will receive a letter of introduction to Windamere as well as regular periodic newsletters. Donations and sponsorship over $2.00 is tax deductable. If you would like to donate/sponsor or have a donation box on your sales counter, would like to know more, or want to download a sponsorship form please visit our website www.windamerehorsehaven.com , or email us at [email protected]

A big thankyou to Anthea for donating 20 round bales of hay to our horses.

Horses are happily munching and think it’s fantastic!

Today was farrier day and the weather held off for most of it.

As most of our followers are unable to see what goes on during our farrier visits, we have had an AI generated reinactment created showing the precise method used to keep our horses hooves in top shape

If you are unsure if this is parody of AI content or not, it is.

Obstacles day for Merrick and Picasso today.

Both have been with us for some time, and have had little life experience beyond their time with us. We are trying to expose them both to more things so that not everything in life is spooky and needs to be jumped at.

They are getting used to following halter pressure and walking on the ramp to prepare them for float loading lessons.

In the coming months these two boys will be coming up for adoption.

We are very grateful to Racing SA for their support on their merchandise sale at the equestrian festival. Head over to their stand and buy some cool stuff!

The Adelaide Equestrian Festival begins this week!

We'll be in the trade village supporting our welfare partners during the event. Be sure to stop by to purchase a Thorough Care SA cap or beanie! All proceeds will go to Windamere Horse Haven and Lincoln Park Horse and Human Rehabilitation Centre, who both work tirelessly to support thoroughbreds. We're excited to see you there!

No those aren’t fangs…. They are hooks and are painful for horses.

Luna and a bunch of other horses had dental treatments today by Equus Veterinary Services

She had hooks, sharp edges and mouth ulcers from the sharp edges rubbing on the inside of the cheeks. Imagine when you have a gum ulcer then multiply it by 2-10 times over through the mouth.

Dental care is something we always have as a priority for our horses, as they are very stoic animals and are often hiding pain.

Luna is now out of quarantine and we are finding her a suitable herd to join.

Not every horse suits every herd so we will see how she likes this first group.

She has a wind sucking habit in quarantine which we hope will reduce or go away when back in a larger area and with other horses.
