Transitioning Between Different Foods

If you decide to change your pet's diet, be aware that their bodies will need time to adjust. When changing too quickly it can alter their stool consistency and colour, sometimes causing them to have diarrhoea.

The greater the difference between their original and new foods, the more likely that diarrhoea (or at least poorly formed stools) will occur. Switching from one primary protein source to another (chicken to lamb, for example) or making a big change in carbohydrate sources (e.g. potato to oats) will lead to longer adaptation times for your dog.

It is reccomended to allow 7 to 10 days to change your pets diet; however, we always advise consulting with your vet first.

If your dog has had some dietary sensitivities, stomach sensitivities, is young (developing their gastro-intestinal function) or particularly old (where digestive function can wane), it's good to take things even slower, over 2 to even 4 weeks.

For best approach when doing the transition, follow the steps below.
