We got to compete on the weekend!
Joy and Gidgee competed in three RATG tests (Retrieving Ability Tests for Gun Dogs).

Saturday Joy placed 3rd and got a qualifying certificate. Gidgee missed out on Saturday (handler error! One must learn things as we go and I unfortunately learnt some things during Gidgee’s test! 🤣).

Sunday Gidgee got a 2nd place and a qualifying certificate. Joy pipped her at the post and got 1st place and a qualifying certificate.

Joy also got 2nd place and a qualifying certificate in her next run.

A successful weekend with lots of takeaways to go and work on.

Penny and Aniece were in tow and were absolute gems all weekend. Grandma came along too and looked after the girls while I trialled, I’m so lucky to have her ❤️ thank you Grandma, we love you.

J’s first pack recall. This video doesn’t look like much.

If you follow our page then you know we run a pack of dogs. Each dog in our pack needs to be able to work with us individually and while they are out together. No matter what other dogs are out, the expectation is that they still need to follow our instructions individually or as a group.

This video doesn’t look like much, but when we add a member into the group, they have to learn to work within our pack. This is J’s first pack recall with some of our pack members. Soon, we’ll add in the rest of the dogs.

Our dogs need to know what our release command is. So that if I am getting them out of their crate, letting them off a lead, moving through a gate or doorway or getting them out of a car, they know to wait until they hear their release command.Letting them off a lead is an easy way to teach it. But! The sound of the clip clicking on their lead often tells a dog their lead is off.

One of the most important exercises we teach: Down Stay 🐾

If I’m working in the shed or preparing animal food like I was this night, I can pop the dogs in a “down, stay”. They know the exercise, they know the expectation. So everything is peaceful 😌🐶

We got a super hairy dog, it’s on us to maintain his coat! He was in need of a tidy up and freshen up so we called in the professionals!

Thank you to Rowena from Blue Wheelers for making him feel and look a whole heap better!

Reggie is now booked in for a regular, once a month appointment with Rowena 🚿🧽🛀🐶
