Pregnancy announcement! Our beautiful Pepper is “pieno di cuccioli”- as our lovely Italian Nonna Lily would say!
So we’re going to have our first litter of Black River Retrievers in 4 years!
Due mid September.
We will be updating our website with more details about these amazing dogs, meanwhile to give you all and idea of what they look like- Black Kobe (who’s on our website heading) is from our first such litter.🥰🐶

Guardian home needed: We are looking for a guardian home for our gorgeous golden stud boy Arthur. He’s a 7 year old purebred intact golden retriever. He loves people(and belly rubs) and nice walks with lots of good smells.
Arthur is fine with cats and other dogs- though he’s not a big player, he enjoys their company.
Arthur can only go to a home with desexed dogs.
Arthur would best suit a home with people around most of the time as he enjoys their company. He is fine being left on his own and enjoys sleeping on the bed or curled up in his own.
As a guardian we expect his chosen family to take good care of him, keep him fit, happy and healthy. We will borrow him for a week or two once or twice a year( for his studding services) and then return him to his guardian home.
When we decide to end his stud services he will be desexed (at our cost) and ownership of him transferred to his guardian home.
As we are based in the Adelaide hills we need a guardian who lives within 2 hrs drive from Mount barker.

"Why would my dog be afraid of me"
It may not be you at all.
They may be feeling anxious because they have had a few experiences earlier which unsettled them a bit.
They can still be on edge....stress can stay with them for a while.

Dogs have a language and licking is part of it.
Sometimes a dog’s lick isn’t about love or food.
It can be a way of saying, “I mean no harm".
Paired with other calming signals, a lick can be your dog’s way of saying, “We’re all good here".

I truly do appreciate some may not see it this way.

Licking is one of those behaviours that sometimes we truly want to believe is simply from affection rather than any other possible reason.

We may not see the reason they are unsure.....but they certainly can be.

Seeking a guardian for the lovely Luna;
Luna is part of our breeding program, she is a stunning 4 year old Black river retriever, unfortunately her human parents are no longer able to care for her due to a combination of new baby and ongoing housing issues. It is with very heavy hearts that they have asked us to help find her a new home.
As part of our guardianship program Luna lives with a family and returns to us for mating and to give birth. She is usually with us for 6 weeks during whelping and for up to a week when mating. The rest of the time she spends with her family, when we decide to end her part in our program she will be desexed (at our cost) and full ownership transferred to her guardian family. All vet bills and parasite prevention treatments are paid for by use during her time in our program. As our facilities are located in Mount Barker we will be looking for guardians who live within 90mins drive of our location.
About Luna- this girl is sweet, playful, highly intelligent and excellent with kids. She loves to swim (beach or pool) go to work with you (her dad was a carpenter/construction worker), play fetch and just chill out on the floor while her people cook or work.
Luna has gotten used to jumping up (her dad had her jumping up onto his arms daily) but we have been working with her on stopping this behaviour. She is a sociable dog who enjoys playing with a variety of dogs of all breeds,ages and sizes. Luna has no problem with car rides,long or short and enjoys camping and sunset walks by the beach.

Our gorgeous girl Polley will be heading off to her new home this Sunday 🥹, leaving only her big brother Rolley left waiting for his fur-ever home. We are sure that a boy this sweet isn’t going to be waiting long 🥰🐶
