Anyone who is looking to have their young horse started, I strongly recommend you read this first. Ironically a big part of my job is turning people away from having their horses started with me, I want all horses to have the best of lives and I know that too much too soon on the body and mentally can ruin a horse in the future, you may get them fixed up and going well at two but in a few years, all sorts of physical problems will start to come out from loading immature body parts not up to the task. This doesn’t mean that a young horse can’t be handled and handled a lot, working with the horses mind and creating confidence, yielding to pressure and generally learning the foundation of things to come is what’s needed at a young age. Just leave the the more advanced things for a later time.

When I was young, starting previously unhandled colts on summer jobs for cattle ranches in several states, the term “colt” usually referred to 4 or 5 year old horses.  Occasionally, one was older, maybe 6 or 7, or, rarely a 3 year old.

To all our family, friends and wonderfully supportive clients, Tamara and I would like to announce the birth of our beautiful son Bodie Wade Day at 8.30 pm on Tuesday the 2nd of July.
Words can not express the joy and love we are feeling.
We would like to thank the Burnside hospital for their wonderful supportive staff, our obstetrician Karen Chandler who is just fantastic and a very special mention to mid wife Maddie Whitehead who went above and beyond to help us through a tricky labor, so caring kind and professional, even staying a few hours after her shift had ended to make sure we were settled and ok.
We look forward to introducing everyone to the future pony handler at Day Horsemanship.

We woke to a great little surprise this morning.
The owners who recently purchased this lovely Clydesdale mare from the Echuca sales and had sent to me for handling, were told she was in foal and due in November.

Thank you to everyone who came out to Kimba on the weekend for lessons, treatments and or just to say g'day. We always have a fantastic time and meet the nicest people and horses. Your positive outlook, thirst for more knowledge with your horses and happy attitudes is refreshing, keep up the great work.

As always a special thank you to Megan Hansen for organising everything, putting us up and baking the best chocolate cake. You're a legend. Oh and you do alright on your horses too.😉

Tamara and I would like to extend a huge thank you to Mitch, Michelle and Tyler Barnes for their hospitality last week at the beautiful Two Bear Ranch in Whitefish Montana.

Mitch and I worked together 21 years ago for Mule Shoe Outfitters in the Glacier National Park, Montana.
We fast became good mates with our similar philosophies on horses and perhaps life in general.

His family, Michelle, Shayna and Tyler made me feel like one of the family and that's how I looked upon them, which was a very special thing being so far from home for over three years.
Fast forward 21 years and it seems some things don't change.

Thank you guys for your love, friendship and hospitality, the nicest horses we got to play with and the most beautiful country we got to ride through.

See you next year. 😉
