Where second chances begin.

Some of the most important work in our community happens away from the spotlight.

Friends of the Wingecarribee Animal Shelter (FOWAS) exists for one simple reason: to give abandoned and surrendered animals the best possible chance at a new life. Not just a roof over their heads, but care, dignity, and the right match with the right home.

Working alongside the Wingecarribee Animal Shelter, FOWAS funds specialist veterinary care, training, enrichment, transport and upgraded facilities. It is the kind of practical, behind-the-scenes support that turns uncertainty into trust, and waiting into belonging. Each year, around 400 animals find their forever homes because of this work.

The shelter has recently reopened with beautiful new accommodation, made possible through the tireless fundraising efforts of FOWAS. Our team popped out to visit the new facility, with thanks to Ranger Peter for taking the time to show us through and share the care that goes into every detail.

FOWAS chooses Community Bank BDCU because they believe, as we do, that strong communities are built through local action. of the Wingecarribee Animal Shelter (FOWAS) are looking forward to attending the Wingecarribee Volunteer Expo.

We will have information about the current vacancy for a Secretary on our Executive Committee, as well as opportunities to volunteer with us in a variety of roles. These include assisting at fundraising events, raffles, dog day out events, and supporting us with administrative tasks.

We look forward to meeting attendees and welcoming new supporters who share our passion for animal welfare.

It’s “the reason for the season” according to Beagles, Labradors & Spaniels in particular… FOOD! Easter in Australia means celebrating with delicious foods; chocolates bunnies or eggs, warm buttery Hot Cross Buns; Roast dinners with fruity chutney; salty macadamia nuts. Yum! Many Easter foods we traditionally enjoy can be toxic for pets, dogs especially, our blog helps you know how to keep them safe. Just ask Ella the Corgi, she loves food (big-time), but she stays healthy & happy by sticking with the doggie treats The Dogtor recommends, and absolutely no Easter Egg Hunts for Corgis.
