Rat bait warning at Spit reserve West!
This has been reported elsewhere but posting again to ensure the message gets to as many local pet owners as possible. Yesterday we treated a sweet little dog who had been seen ingesting rat baits down at the spit reserve. Luckily her owners brought her in to see Dr Amy who induced vomiting and treated her with Vitamin K which is an antidote.
The baits don’t appear to have laid maliciously, rather a local business has laid the baits and they have somehow become accessible for dogs to eat. The baits appear highly palatable to dogs and ingesting only a few grams can prove deadly. Symptoms may be delayed for 2-3 days post ingestion, and involve uncontrolled bleeding. Blood may be seen in the urine or faeces or gums, or may be internal with no external signs. If you suspect your dog may have eaten baits contact Mosman vet without delay on 02 99602856
