Happy New Year to all.

I have been pretty quiet the past few months as I've been busily working on a new exciting program for my clinics and private lessons.

I've also been studying to become a qualified saddle fitter, which is super exciting and another layer to bring to the clinics and lessons.

So, is this your year with your horse?
Do you have goals you want to accomplish this year?
Are you wanting to grow your skills to either just enjoy riding with confidence or maybe go to a few competitions or maybe you want to get serious about competing.

I will now be offering the same creating confidence through connection clinics but I will also be offering more advanced clinics.

Watch this space as I will be posting up dates soon for the first series of clinics for the year.

As always my clinics will be affordable and offers the opportunity to meet with other like minded people and giving everyone the opportunity to create connections with other horse people.

The new clinic format will be more intimate with a maximum of 5 riders per class, offering everyone more one on one time.

Please feel free to reach out if you would like more information.

One of the greatest privileges for me is getting to work with students and their horses and watching relationships and partnerships grow between horse and rider.

When I see the smile on riders faces when they have that light bulb moment is just the absolute best.

Remember why we got into horses in the first place, love and fun. Never lose sight of that.

It's been interesting to see all the posts regarding the Olympics and the word abuse is being thrown around a lot.

My question is what is abuse to you in regards to the Equestrian world?

What were the positives and negatives that you saw so far in these Olympics?

What would you like to see change?

I think this is a very important conversation with the spotlight being shone on the Equestrian world right now.

If you could please take a minute to support Shane, It's such a shame that EA have taken the stance they have considering it was all meant to be a bit of fun. At the end of the day, people didn't have to look.

I support Shane Rose

I'd like to introduce my new main man. This is the start of an exciting adventure. Please meet Drifter, Lazy D Captains Rhythm. He is a 4 year old Duel registered ASH, QH. He will make an appearance at some of the clinics as he needs to experience the outside world.

It has been the hardest decision to put this unicorn on the market and she had sold but unfortunately the people who had purchased her didn't have the money, so before I go any further with the description. Please only enquire if you have the funds. No I will not accept a payment plan and no I will not allow her to go off property on a trial.
Now that being said, Harmony is a 15.3hh, 15 year old TB Mare who is an absolute pleasure to do anything with. She has had extensive horsemanship done with her, joins up, will follow you anywhere.
She is easy to catch, shoe, float, worm, needle, wash, rug, pretty much do anything with. She has absolutely no buck, rear, bolt or any dirt in her whatsoever.
In the 3 years I have had Harmony, we have been to obstacle courses, dressage comps, clinics, Ranch riding, trail riding and she has never put a hoof wrong, she has never shy'd and always gives it her best.
She can be left for months without riding and just hop on and go.
She is a smoocher, loves cuddles and is not your normal mare.
She is up to date with all her vaccinations, teeth and wormer and has just been shod, front shoes only.
She will make a great confidence builder for someone, however she is a forward moving horse, she does have a big trot, but you can ride her at the end of the buckle.
The 1 fault that she does have, is that she doesn't like a straight load float. That being said, I had her loading no problem on a straight load, but it took a lot of trust to get her there. She is great on an angle load and she doesn't like anyone hanging onto her mouth, she is soft, light and responsive.
Please, please no time wasters as this is already a heartbreaking decision for me.

I now have openings for private lessons in the Woodford area on a Saturday once a fortnight. Please let me know if interested. The more students in the area, the cheaper the lesson costs. Let's face it, we could all do with saving some money these days.

Hey QSEC Stadium Riders!

We have installed a couple of industrial fans in our breezeway (pun totally intended), for you to park your hot sweaty self and horse in front of to help you cool down a bit after your ride.

These are located in the breezeway between the main stadium arena and arena 2 indoor on the western side, a short distance to the wash bay to hose your horses off.

Stay hydrated, cool and look after yourselves and your lovely equine mates in this heat and humidity!

Feel free to use these fans when you need to, whether you are here for a casual ride, clinic or a competition.

Happy summer riding!

I want to talk about heat. I know, I know, we are all over it, we are all feeling it, but so are our horses. We can go inside the air conditioning but unfortunately for our horses, not so much.

I saw a post the other day from a lady that took her horses on a 20klm ride, she rode one why ponying the other. She commented that her horses were unfit and overweight and the heat was unbearable. She then proceeded to post photos of her horses after the ride. These horses were dripping wet and could barely hold their heads up. She said great way to get wet saddle pads.

For those who don't know, we call wet saddle pads, putting miles on our horses, putting in the work. However this is not ok, this is not an ok way to put miles on our horses, in fact it was downright dangerous and irresponsible.

Now you will rarely see me comment on others posts as I believe we should all be supporting and picking each other up, not tearing each other down. But after 40 odd years in the industry, this had my jaw drop, that this lady thought this was ok.

So I am here to remind people that there are some great tips to try and cool our horses down.
1. Hose there belly and underneath of the horse, do not hose the top of your horse as the sun heats this water up and makes them even hotter.
2. If their water is out in the sun and not in the shade, this water will get hot and the horses will be less inclined to drink it. So if possible place water in the shade.
3. Please don't wet down your rugs and put them on the horse thinking this will keep them cool. The sun heats up the water and the rugs become unbearably hot and can in fact be very dangerous in overheating your horse.
4. If you feel that you have to ride, please ride early in the morning or late afternoon, avoid the hottest part of the day. That being said the humidity has been so extreme even early in the morning.
5. Provide a salt lick and give your horse electrolytes daily.
6. As soon as you have finished riding your horse, hose your horse down straight away, starting from the legs and working your way up. Don't water scrape them and allow them to dry off in the shade.
7. Ice packs on the horses legs are also a great way to cool them down and take the heat out of their tendons, especially if you use tendon or brushing boots. I just buy the blue flexi ice packs from the supermarket or cheapy store and bandage them onto the horses legs.

If you're hot and feeling irritable from the heat, you can guarantee your horse is also feeling the same way.

Now before anyone jumps on me regarding this subject. I am aware that there are working horses out on stations etc that work through this heat. However they are conditioned to this heat and work and they are fit.
