Your horse doesn't care about the ribbons. They care about how you make them feel. 🐴

We can get so caught up in training goals, competitions and improving performance that sometimes it's worth remembering what matters most.

Our horses rely on us to recognise when they're uncomfortable, when they're struggling and when they need a little more understanding.

Whether you're competing at the highest level or simply enjoying a quiet ride at home, the partnership you build with your horse is worth more than any ribbon.

Because good horsemanship isn't just about what we achieve. It's about how we get there.

What's one thing your horse has taught you about patience, trust or partnership?

What are you really investing in when you choose a made-to-measure saddle? 🐴

A beautiful saddle is one thing. But for me, what matters most is the horse underneath it and the rider sitting in it.

Choosing a made-to-measure saddle is about more than the appearance, the leather or even the craftsmanship.

It's about taking the time to consider your horse's individual shape, your own needs as a rider and the type of riding you enjoy together.

It's about making thoughtful choices that support comfort, balance and freedom of movement.

And yes, quality matters too.

Black Country Saddles are handcrafted in England, using traditional saddle-making techniques, quality English leather and pure wool flocking.

But what I love most is that the process begins with the individual horse and rider.

A made-to-measure saddle is a considered investment. And for me, the real value lies in giving both horse and rider the best possible foundation for a comfortable partnership.

Because it's not just about the saddle you buy. It's about the many rides you'll share in it.

Your saddle fits. But does your horse agree? 🐴

We put so much time and effort into our horses - their training, nutrition, fitness and overall wellbeing.

But how often do we stop to consider what's happening underneath the saddle when we ride?

For me, saddle fitting isn't simply about finding a saddle that sits nicely on a horse's back.

It's about understanding the individual horse, how they move, how their body changes and how the saddle works with both horse and rider.

And sometimes, the things we can't immediately see are just as important as the things we can.

This is one of the reasons I'm so passionate about Black Country Saddles. Having a saddle made to your horse's individual measurements, while considering your needs as a rider, is an opportunity to put comfort and movement at the heart of the process.

Because a comfortable horse is a happier partner.

🐴 Watch reel for a few things worth considering about your horse's saddle.

HIT AIR OOPS! #1 🐴😂

You wouldn't drive your car with your seatbelt draped across you but not clicked in… would you? 🚗

Well, wearing your Hit Air vest without connecting the lanyard to your saddle is pretty much the same thing!

Your Hit Air vest is designed to inflate when the lanyard is pulled with sufficient force during a fall. But without that connection, it can't activate as intended.

It's a small step that's easy to overlook, especially when you're busy getting ready to ride.

So make it part of your routine:

✅ Helmet on
✅ Hit Air vest on
✅ Mount your horse
✅ Clip your lanyard to the saddle strap
✅ Ready to ride!

Because wearing your safety equipment is one thing. Using it correctly is another!

And yes… we've all had those OOPS moments! 😂

Sometimes we learn the hardest lessons when we're trying to do the right thing. 🐴

When a horse is reluctant to move forward, it's natural to question whether pain or discomfort could be contributing to the problem.

But identifying exactly where that discomfort is coming from isn't always straightforward.

My recent experience with my young horse has been both frustrating and heartbreaking.

After trying Bute to investigate whether pain was contributing to his reluctance to move forward, his behaviour deteriorated dramatically.

Knowing his history of hindgut dysfunction, I strongly believe the Bute aggravated an already sensitive digestive system.

And the more I've researched, the more concerned I've become.

Phenylbutazone (Bute) is a commonly used anti-inflammatory medication, but it can also have significant effects on the digestive tract, including changes to the hindgut microbiome, intestinal irritation and, in some cases, serious conditions such as right dorsal colitis.

While I can't confirm exactly what happened internally in my horse, the change I witnessed has made me question the role the medication played.

For now, I've stopped trying to ride him. It's time to reassess, investigate further and listen to what he's telling me.

After more than 45 years around horses, I'm still learning. And sometimes the lessons aren't easy.

Have you experienced hindgut issues with your horse, particularly following medication? What helped you get to the bottom of the problem?

I'd genuinely love to hear your experiences.

Not all air vests are the same. So why do I choose Hit Air?

There are more air vests appearing in the equestrian world than ever before and for me, that’s a positive thing.

Seeing more riders thinking seriously about their safety can only be good for our sport.
But when you’re choosing an air vest, I believe it’s worth looking beyond simply wearing an air vest.
I’ve worked with Hit Air for years. I wear one myself, and I understand how the different models fit and function.

With a range of different styles available, I can help riders choose the vest that best suits their body, their riding and their individual needs, while every Hit Air equestrian vest incorporates the brand’s signature neck airbag protection.

And my support doesn’t stop once you’ve bought it.
From fitting and setup to replacement canisters, accessories, resetting your vest after activation and ongoing servicing, I’m here to help you look after the equipment you’ve trusted to help protect you.
For me, that’s why I continue to stand behind Hit Air.

It’s not simply about selling an air vest. It’s about supporting the rider wearing it.

📩 If you’re considering an air vest and aren’t sure which model is right for you, get in touch.
