WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

A group has had to cancel their planned eventthat was pencilled in at Montrose, which means 17 & 18 October is now available, so we thought, why not ask you guys what you’d love to do with the weekend?

Would you be keen for…

● A weekend clinic — bring your horse, learn something new, improve your skills and spend the weekend riding with a great clinician. And if there’s someone you’d love to learn from, tell us who!

● A working cattle weekend — plenty of cows, plenty of riding and plenty of opportunity to get your horse (and yourself!) working cattle in a relaxed environment.

● A private lesson weekend — want some one-on-one time? We could bring in a trainer and offer individual lessons so you can really focus on you and your horse. And again, tell us who you’d like to learn from!

● An open arena weekend — just come and ride! Bring your horse, have a play on the mechanical cow, work on your own training and enjoy making the most of the arena.

● A focused training weekend — come and stay with a group of like-minded people, ride together and choose what you want to work on. A chance to get away, concentrate on your horse and head home feeling like you’ve achieved something.

Or maybe you have an idea we haven’t thought of?

And if you’re a clinician or trainer looking for somewhere to run a clinic or training weekend, we’d love to hear from you too!

So, if 17 & 18 October was your weekend at Montrose… what would you want to do?

Drop your ideas in the comments — we’d genuinely love to hear them!

📸 A little late, but definitely worth the wait!

We’ve been a bit slow getting these photos from the North West Cow Horse Show in Quirindi posted… mostly because choosing which photos to purchase was WAY too hard!

Emma Fiddler Photography did such an amazing job capturing the horses, the action and all those little moments throughout the show. There were far too many good ones to choose from!

So, here are a few of the ones we finally managed to narrow it down to.

Thanks Emma for capturing some great memories — we love them! ❤️

WELCOME DANIEL GORMAN — Daniel Gorman Horsemanship

We’re excited to introduce Daniel Gorman of Dan Gorman Horsemanship.

Daniel has been training horses from a young age, developing a passion for starting young horses and building strong foundations. He spent several years working with Steve Byrne, NCHA Pro Trainer, starting his 2-year-olds, before heading to Canada to pursue his passion for roping. There, he worked with Martin Black, gaining a different perspective on working with cattle, young horses and developing horses that can confidently handle real-world situations.

Today, Daniel runs his own colt-starting and training business from his home in Uralla, NSW, combining strong foundations with practical, real-world horsemanship and refinement.

Daniel has also established himself as a highly accomplished competitor in the reined cow horse arena. His recent achievements include being crowned 2025 NRCHAA Limited, Intermediate and Open Cow Horse Champion, Limited and Intermediate Open Spectacular Champion, Southern Downs Performance Horse Association Open Two-Handed Cow Horse Spectacular Champion, and 2026 PHAA Box Drive National Champion.

While these achievements speak to Daniel’s ability as a competitor, it’s his approach to helping people and their horses that we’re particularly excited to bring to Montrose.

Dan’s focus is on helping riders become more confident and capable in their own horsemanship. His lessons are about more than simply being told what to do — they’re about understanding the how and the why behind what you’re asking of your horse.

Whether you’re starting a young horse, developing an existing partnership or simply wanting to become a better rider, Dan will help you develop the practical skills, understanding and confidence to continue progressing on your own equine journey.

His approach is about helping riders:

• Build confidence in their own horsemanship
• Understand how and why to ask their horse for something
• Develop clearer, more effective communication between horse and rider
• Recognise when something isn’t working and understand how to change it
• Develop practical skills that can be taken home and applied in everyday training
• Build a willing, confident and responsive horse
• Create a positive partnership where both horse and rider can learn and progress together

We believe good horsemanship should leave you feeling more confident, more knowledgeable and more capable of helping your own horse — and that’s what we hope Dan can bring to the Montrose community.

Importantly, this isn’t planned as a one-off visit. Our intention is to have Dan attending regularly for private lessons at Montrose, giving riders the opportunity to work with him consistently and build on what they learn from one lesson to the next.

As we get established, we also plan to introduce cattle work down the track, giving riders the opportunity to take the foundations developed in their private lessons and apply them in a practical cattle environment.

We’re really looking forward to having Dan become part of what we’re building here at Montrose and creating an opportunity for riders to develop their horsemanship, gain confidence and continue progressing alongside their horses.

Dan will be at Montrose on

Make today count 💪

Training horses has taught me that the little things you do every day matter.

The same goes for my non pros. Confidence in the show pen is built in the rides at home, the questions you ask, and your willingness to keep learning even when things don't come easy.

You don't have to have it all figured out today. Just keep building. 💜

Expressions of Interest

We're excited to explore the next chapter at Montrose by expanding our Performance Horse Agistment places.

Purpose-built for horses in work, our agistment is ideal for (but certainly not limited to) riders involved in western performance disciplines who are looking for more than just a paddock.

Each agistee will have their own private, self-contained setup, including:
• A private paddock with 4 x 4m shelter and permanent electric offset fencing
• A 4m x 4.5m stable with timer-controlled lighting
• An adjoining 8m x 12m steel top rail yard
• Auto-filling water troughs
• Water tap in your area
• Individual secure, lockable, vermin-proof tack and feed storage

You'll also enjoy:
• Full use of our 40m x 40m sand arena, complete with arena lighting and the Procutter dual-speed mechanical cow
• Private arena bookings through our online booking system, so you can enjoy the arena to yourself
• Complimentary fence-sitting at Montrose-hosted clinics
• Priority access to Montrose clinics, workshops and events featuring some of Australia's leading trainers
• Full bathroom facilities, including a hot shower
• Kitchen and communal area for coffee and lunch breaks
• Float parking available by arrangement
• A local produce store stocking a huge range of horse feed and supplies, with convenient delivery direct to Montrose
• Access to regular visits from our preferred farrier, equine bodyworker, equine dentist and chiropractor, while still having the freedom to use your own professionals.

Flexible care options will be available to suit your routine. We can provide one feed each day, with owners completing the second feed either morning or evening. Full-care agistment may also be available for those wanting complete peace of mind.

Our goal is to create a small community of dedicated horse people who value quality horse care, practical, purpose built facilities and a supportive environment where both horse and rider can thrive.

At this stage, we're inviting Expressions of Interest to help us shape this exciting addition to Montrose, with an anticipated move-in date of October 2026.

If this sounds like the kind of place you'd like to call home, we'd love to hear from you.

Send us a message telling us a little about yourself, your horse, the discipline you compete in and your goals for the future.

Places will be strictly limited.
