Ready for work tomorrow? Does your normal morning routine include popping the citronella collar on the dog before you go to work? Some ideas to help your dog stay busy and relaxed while at work without the harshness of a citronella collar.
● Cardio!! Give your dog a good work out before you leave. If after a walk your dog doesn't look like he has had a good work out, he probably needs more exercise.
● Never feed from a bowl. Make your dog work for every piece of kibble. This will keep him busy and use his brain power which will tire him!
● Marrow bones. Careful, some are cut length ways which makes for a razor sharp edge.
● If you can afford it, hire a dog walker. But if you have a high energy dog, this shouldn't replace your morning walk with fido.
● Foobler- check it out online. Timer to release the food but the dog still has to move the ball around for food to come out.
● What does your dog enjoy? Does he like tug? Use old towels and tie to a fence or wall. Encourage him to tug it by cutting the towel lengthwise, plaiting the towels and putting food treats in the the plaits.
● Google "dog enrichment" for an endless supply of ideas!

Rainy day at home? Why not whip up your own dog toy? You can make something like this with plumbers pvc pipe using straight pieces, corner pieces, and drill a few holes for treats and kibble to fall out! Your dog will be mentally stimulated and kept busy while having lots of fun working out how to get the kibble out!

Dog - Dog On Leash Greetings
When dog's are on leash they can feel trapped because they are unable to communicate and interact freely. Your dog may be a little stressed from watching and walking head on to another owner and dog walking on the path towards you and your dog. Dogs do not have to greet every dog they pass. Many don't want to greet every dog they pass. An owner may be calling out, "it's ok he is friendly!" Many of these "friendly" dogs may actually be showing unfriendly body language. It can be very frustrating for an owner who has a dog in training, to have a dog force itself into the face of your dog. One dog may be fearful, and when it can't flee because it's on lead, it may resort to fight.
A few things to remember when walking your dog:
• your dog doesn't need to greet every dog they pass
• if you do want your dog to greet a dog, always call out and ask the other owner before the dogs greet. And look at the other dogs body language, does that dog look happy to greet your dog?
• use a 3 second rule, only let them meet for 3 seconds and then move on.
• don't stare at a dog
• if you want to avoid another dog, curve around it, cross the road or turn around and walk away.
• teach your dog to watch you, target, and leave it, positively! You can use these to avoid or move away from another dog.
• if an owner of another dog spots you and is smiling at you while being pulled by their dog charging toward your dog (I know many of you will know this image well!) Then simply hold your hand up in a stop signal and say, "my dog is in training, please hold back your dog". You can say things like, my dog is not friendly, or my dog has kennel cough!! Whatever it takes to get them to stop.
• always keep your dog on leash unless in a designated leash free area.

In a perfect world, people should have to have a license to own a dog, training would be mandatory and should pass a safe dog test to ensure that the dog does not pose a risk to the community. In a perfect world, people would be safe to walk down the street without the risk of being attacked by a dog.
