Mt Ascot is a family run and owned business, founded in 1956 by Reuben and Heather Brumpton and today is managed by their son Nigel and his family. Mount Ascot has always been leaders in genetics, striving for success by benchmarking against the merino industry standards. The Stud has been very successful due to the durable, "easy-care", fertile animal that returns quality yields in all seasons. J

olly Jumbuck was founded in 2006 and is owned by Felicity, Charlie and Lachie Brumpton. The stud aims to continuously breed a dual purpose, easy care and highly productive poll merino that out performs competitors and exceeds client expectations.

Our Annual Northern Ram Sale will be held on Friday 4th September at ‘The Wellshot Hotel’, Ilfracombe. We will have 150 productive rams on offer that are bred and suited for the demands of the western Qld environment.

We are on our way home with a few less rams in the trailer after a cracking time at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show in Bendigo. Jolly Jumbuck won Reserve Champion fine wool poll ram and Reserve Grand Champion August shorn fine wool ram.
Mt Ascot won Champion fine/medium wool August shorn Merino ram.

Jolly Jumbuck offered two rams in the sale for the first time and it was well worth it!
Lot 95 - JJ 243014 sold for $10,000 to Mount Yulong Poll Merino Stud, Telangatuk East VIC.
Lot 96 - JJ 243052 sold for $12,000 to Austral Eden Poll Merino Stud, West Wyalong NSW.
We also sold privately JJ 243079 to Glenpaen Poll Merino Stud, Brimpaen Vic for $14,000.

We are on our way home from a cracker of a show at Longreach for the QLD State Sheep Show. Mt Ascot won supreme exhibit, supreme merino exhibit, Qld ram and junior ram of the year, grand champion all purpose merino, merino aggregate and many more.
Jolly Jumbuck won grand champion poll ram and reserve, reserve grand champion poll ewe, poll aggregate, champion ewes fleece and others.
Lachie won champion pen of flock ewes and flock ewe of the show with a pen he picked out from “Woodstock” at Cunnamulla.
Congratulations to the Longreach show society on a fantastic show with many sheep entries. It was great to see so much positivity in the Merino game!

Young Merino enthusiasts, this is where it all leads 🐑✨

The Queensland State Final of the AgForce Merino Sheep Young Judges competition, alongside the Nutrien Wool Merino Fleece competition, is set to take centre stage at Longreach.

It’s a moment that brings together the very best of our young talent, all happening in conjunction with the QMSSA State Sheep Show during the 2026 Longreach Show on Friday 22 May.

For those coming through the ranks, this is more than a competition.

It’s a chance to build your skills, spend time in the yards and fleece lines, and connect with others who share the same passion for Merinos.

Whether you’re just starting out or already involved, you’re welcome.

Entries for the Young Judges (15 to under 25) will be taken on the day, so if you’ve been thinking about giving it a go, this might be your moment.

Our ET program surprised us this year as nearly every recipient ewe had to receive 2 embryos each. We flushed 12 ewes and averaged 16.6 embryos per ewe, resulting in 199 transferable embryos. We will perhaps prepare some more recipients next year if we can keep these results up! It’s very exciting to be able to get so many lambs out of some top ewes! The recipients scanned at 81% conception this week.
The picture is of the donors recovering post flushing in March.

Results from our On-Property Ram Sale yesterday:
- overall 90/90 auctions rams averaged $3,095. 103 rams sold for the day
- 54/54 Mt Ascot rams sold to average $3,388, top - $8,400
- 36/36 Jolly Jumbuck rams sold to average $2,653, top - $7,000
Thankyou to everyone involved in making our sale so successful! Special mention to the Little Family, Cunnamulla for purchasing the top priced ram and being the largest volume buyer, Brett and Virginia Elliot, Kynuna for purchasing the top priced poll ram, and to the Kirby Family, St George for their volume buy.
Also thanks to the NAB Roma and Coppers/Allflex for supplying beers and keeping us well hydrated!
