At Veterinary Specialist Of Sydney (VSOS), blood donors like Milhouse and Nelson don’t just come in for a routine visit, they help save the lives of critically ill and injured patients. While they’re here, they still manage to bring the best energy (and a bit of dancing) to a day that means so much to so many.

Canine blood donors play a vital role in emergency and specialist care, helping us treat patients who need urgent transfusions to survive. Without them, many of our most critical cases wouldn’t have a second chance.

Today we celebrate 6 years of VSOS. 🤍

What an incredible journey it has been caring for pets and supporting the people who love them.

This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing team. Thank you for your dedication, compassion, expertise and the countless hours you give to helping our patients every day. Your passion is the heart of VSOS.

We are so proud of this beautiful Blood Donor hero Alfred who recently did his first blood donation with us here at VSOS.

🩸 Why dogs donate blood

Dogs need transfusions for trauma (e.g. accidents), major surgery, immune diseases, clotting disorders, and cancer treatment.
There is no artificial substitute, so donor dogs are lifesaving.
One donation can help multiple dogs, as blood can be separated into components (like red cells and plasma).
