Have you ever wondered why taking your Border Collie on a long run/walk still results in restlessness at home? Maybe even behavioural issues?
Different breeds have different requirements for physical and mental needs. Some dogs are content after a nice walk through the neighborhood, but depending on what they are bred for, can be the difference in their needs being met or not, even if you take them on long runs twice a day, that still may not be fulfilling their instinctual needs, but just creating more stamina 💪🏻
Max after a walk or run around at the park does result in him being physically tired straight after. However after a very short rest, he is back up and at it again. Max after herdy balls results in him being physically exercised but by giving his instincts a work out, this results in a calm dog for the rest of the day 😌
It’s quite common to want a herding breed because you have an active lifestyle. However, if all their needs aren’t being met, you may still experience undesired behaviours popping up.
When they are herding, of course it requires physical activity, but if you actually watch them working, there is SO much more to it than just running around 🐑🐑
