Out of all the big boys I treated Saturday, this little guy was the one most in need of my service 🫘

One of my favourite things is when they c**k their leg as an invitation to free access all areas. Usually because it's been uncomfortable and itchy for some time, the relief is tremendous.
I'll let this boy show you how grateful he was for his treatment 🐎🫘

Big bean removed for a big beautiful boy.
What a day, temp quickly rising to 37° before the sky turned nasty, and I end up in the eye of the storm being smashed by hail. The joys of working mobile

Not all boys have such an obvious growth, and some boys don't drop it all the way out to get a look at it. The only way to be sure everything is in order, is to have an annual professional check up to rule out any abnormalities, early detection is the key to a successful outcome.

Whilst doing this sweet boys annual sheath clean bean removal and p***s health check today, I felt some abnormal skin cells around the urethra fossa. As luck would have it, the client had the Dentist working on her horses at the same time, this boy was up after I had treated him, so I stuck around to get eyes on what I had felt so the client could show her vet. Once sedation was on board and he dropped it out it was exactly what I expected. Vet intervention now required for diagnosis. This boy didn’t have any irregularities last year, so this has come about in the past 12 months. Highlighting the importance of yearly visits from a professional.
Is your boy due 🤔 early detection of abnormalities is the keys to successful treatment.

This bean I removed over the weekend was rock hard, and basically square shaped, making it a very uncomfortable process to remove. This boy was very stoic and we got there in the end, giving him much needed relief.
When was the last time you had your boys bits checked by a professional? PM to check availability in your area 🫘

The darker section of this bean in the picture on the right, is the part you can see protruding from the head of the p***s in the picture on the left, stretching the entrance to urethral fossa and putting pressure on the urethra.

🐎Why are beans a man made problem? 🐎

This is something we say alot and so many of you want to know what we mean by that.

One thing that is NOT true, yet is often stated by people who don’t do this as a job, is that beans are caused because the horse started getting its sheath cleaned.
(Using incorrect products and over cleaning will make it get dirtier quicker though - but we will talk on that another day).

I can’t tell you how many home-bred horses we have attended with ginormous beans - and believe me when I say their owners pretty much all told us they had never so much as glanced in that area, let alone cleaned it - and the reason they never did is because they were told the statement above.

So what do we mean when we say man made issue?

It is very clear that the domestication of geldings and/or stallions plays a huge factor.

They are cut far too early - but of course we don’t always have a choice in that due to yard rules etc.

They are not covering as true wild horses would-
and before anyone shouts at me…I know we should refer to them as feral - but this page has an international platform so for the sake of universal language it is much easier to say wild horses.

How do we know this?
Because we have spent ten years working with geldings cut early, geldings cut late, non covering stallions and covering stallions and believe me it makes a difference to which stage they are at.

Covering stallions will still get the residue of a bean in the urethral fossa, but if they are consistently using their tackle it is very unlikely to form a decent size bean.

Non covering stallions will get beans, some get them young - but for the most part they don’t get them as early in life as geldings.

Geldings cut late (6/7/8 years old) are in the same group as the non covering stallions.

Geldings cut early (before the age of 1/2) can develop beans as early as 2 years old.

This is why It’s a man made problem and it needs human intervention by us to remove the beans and any harsh debris that accumulates in the sheath/on the p***s.

💥It's fly strike season, is your boy due for his annual sheath clean and penia health check?
No one wants to be fishing maggots out of a dirty sheath, please don't wait, if your boy is smelly its time for a clean.
